through the lattice. Heb. השבכה, grata in Medieval Latin, lattice. I say that they were accustomed to weave it as a warp and a woof with long boards and short ones, which is called lattes, lathe [in] Fr., cancelli [in Latin]; cancel in O.F., space behind the grating, and they would make it all of holes like a sort of net, and it is called prodne in O.F. And I heard that שְּׂבָכָה is vis in Fr. a screw, and in German schwindel stieg, a spiral staircase, as I explained in (I Kings 6:8): “and with winding stairs they would go up…” |

3But an angel of the Lord spoke to Elijah the Tishbite [saying], "Arise, go up toward the king of Samaria's messengers, and speak to them, [saying], 'Is it because there is no God in Israel, that you go to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? |

in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat. Is it possible to say this? Did he not reign in the nineteenth year of Jehoshaphat, for Ahaziah reigned in the seventeenth [year of Jehoshaphat] (I Kings 22:52), and reigned for two years (ibid.), and in a nearby chapter also it is written (3:1) In the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat, Jehoram reigned. Now Jehoshaphat reigned twenty-five years before Jehoram his son reigned. But, Jehoshaphat was deservant of being killed in Ramoth Gilead, but as a reward for his crying out [to God,] God suspended his death for him seven years, and from that time Scripture counts [the years] to his son. |
