A maamar is a Chassidic discourse, delivered by a rebbe. Often couched in mysticism and based on a Torah verse or teaching of the sages, it is transcribed in Hebrew and carefully studied for generations. During the course of his leadership, the Rebbe transmitted 1,562 maamarim, only a fraction of which have been translated to English.

For a Chassid, to study a maamar is to experience the unfolding of divine wisdom filtered through the timeless teachings of the Torah in a way that is as relevant as it is otherworldly.
