| 1And David said, "This is the House of the Lord God, and this is the altar for burnt offerings for Israel." |

אוַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד זֶ֣ה ה֔וּא בֵּ֖ית יְהֹוָ֣ה הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְזֶה־מִּזְבֵּ֥חַ לְעֹלָ֖ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל: |
| And David said, etc. from now on, anyone seeking the Lord to offer a sacrifice to Him shall go forth and sacrifice on that altar. |

ויאמר דויד זה הוא בית ה' האלהים וזה מזבח לעולה לישראל
מכאן ואילך שכל שמבקש ה' להקריב לו קרבן יצא ויקריב על אותו מזבח:

| 2And David ordered to gather the strangers who were in the land of Israel, and he stationed hewers to hew wrought stone to build the House of God. |
|
בוַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד לִכְנוֹס֙ אֶת־הַגֵּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּֽעֲמֵ֣ד חֹֽצְבִ֗ים לַחְצוֹב֙ אַבְנֵ֣י גָזִ֔ית לִבְנ֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָֽאֱלֹהִֽים: |
| to gather the strangers who had converted, because he did not wish to make Israelites perform rigorous labor. And so we find with Solomon below (II Chron. 2:1): “And Solomon counted, etc.” ; (ibid. verse 17): “And he made of them seventy thousand who bear burdens.” And it is written further (ibid. 8:7): “And all the people remaining from the Hittites, etc., who were not of Israel, etc.;” (ibid. verse 9): “And of the Children of Israel, whom Solomon did not make slaves, etc.” |

לכנוס את הגרים
גרים שנתגיירו שלא רצה להעביד בישראל עבודת פרך וכן מצינו בשלמה למטה ב' ויספר שלמה וגו' ויעש מהם ע' אלף נושא סבל וגו' ועוד כתיב וכל העם הנותר מן החתי וגו' ב' פסוקים (לקמן כ"א) ועוד כתיב ומן בני ישראל לא נתן שלמה לעבדים וגו' (שם):

| 3And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails, for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings, and copper in abundance, without weight. |

גוּבַרְזֶ֣ל| לָ֠רֹב לַמִּסְמְרִ֞ים לְדַלְת֧וֹת הַשְּׁעָרִ֛ים וְלַֽמְחַבְּר֖וֹת הֵכִ֣ין דָּוִ֑יד וּנְחֹ֥שֶׁת לָרֹ֖ב אֵ֥ין מִשְׁקָֽל: |
| for the nails, for the doors of the gates in German, negel, nails. |

| And David prepared… for the couplings the iron [implements] with which they join and reinforce the doors and the gates. |

הכין דוד הברזל שמחברין ומחזיקים הדלתות והשערים בהם:

| 4And cedar trees without number, for the Zidonians and the Tyrians brought cedar trees in abundance to David. |

דוַֽעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִ֖ים לְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר כִּֽי הֵ֠בִיאוּ הַצִּֽידֹנִ֨ים וְהַצֹּרִ֜ים עֲצֵ֧י אֲרָזִ֛ים לָרֹ֖ב לְדָוִֽיד: |
| and the Tyrians with Huram, the king of Tyre. |

והצורים
עם חירם מלך צור:
|
| 5And David said, "Solomon my son is young and tender, and the House to be built for the Lord, [must be] magnified on high for fame and for glory to all lands. I shall [therefore] now make preparation for him." And David prepared in abundance before his death. |
|
הוַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗יד שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנִי֘ נַ֣עַר וָרָךְ֒ וְהַבַּ֜יִת לִבְנֽוֹת־לַֽיהֹוָ֗ה לְהַגְדִּ֨יל| לְמַ֜עְלָה לְשֵׁ֚ם וּלְתִפְאֶ֙רֶת֙ לְכָל־הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת אָכִ֥ינָה נָּ֖א ל֑וֹ וַיָּ֧כֶן דָּוִ֛יד לָרֹ֖ב לִפְנֵ֥י מוֹתֽוֹ: |
| is young and tender נַעַר, because even one [who is] forty-two years old is called נַעַר, for it is written: (Exod. 33:11): “… and his young (נַעַר) servant, Joshua the son of Nun, did not depart, etc.,” for Joshua reigned after Moses only twenty-eight years, and he lived one hundred and ten years. We find (in the first year that the Israelites were in the desert) that Scripture testifies about him: “and Joshua the son of Nun, his young [servant],” and at that time he was forty-two years old. Therefore, it was necessary to write, “tender,” because he [Solomon] was only twelve years old when he reigned. |

נער ורך
לפי שאפילו בן מ"ב שנה קרוי נער דכתיב ויהושע בן נון נער לא ימיש וגו' (שמות ל"ג) שהרי יהושע לא מלך אחרי משה כי אם כ"ח שנה וחי ק"י שנה נמצא (בשנת ל"א שנה)[בשנה ראשונה] כשהיו ישראל במדבר העיד עליו הכתוב ויהושע בן נון נער מאז היה בן מ"ב שנה על כן הוצרך לכתוב רך שלא היה כי אם בן י"ב שנה כשמלך:

| magnified on high It was very tall, for Solomon raised it up to one hundred and twenty cubits, as it is written: (I Kings 6:3): “And the porch before the Temple of the House, etc.” |

להגדיל למעלה
גדל מאד שהגביהו שלמה עד מאה ועשרים אמה כדכתיב (במלכים א' ו') והאולם על פני היכל הבית וגו':

| 6And he called Solomon his son and commanded him to build a House for the Lord God of Israel. |
|
ווַיִּקְרָ֖א לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֑וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֙הוּ֙ לִבְנֽוֹת־בַּ֔יִת לַֽיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל: |
| 7And David said to Solomon, "My son, as for me, it was in my heart to build a House in the name of the Lord my God. |
|
זוַיֹּ֥אמֶר דָּוִ֖יד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֑ה בְּנִ֕י (כתיב בְּנִ֕ו) אֲנִי֙ הָיָ֣ה עִם־לְבָבִ֔י לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֖ם יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי: |
| 8But the word of the Lord was upon me, saying: 'You have shed much blood, and you have waged great wars; you shall not build a House in My Name because you have shed much blood to the ground before Me. |
|
חוַיְהִ֨י עָלַ֚י דְּבַר־יְהֹוָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר דָּ֚ם לָרֹב֙ שָׁפַ֔כְתָּ וּמִלְחָמ֥וֹת גְּדֹל֖וֹת עָשִׂ֑יתָ לֹֽא־תִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֙יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י כִּי דָּמִ֣ים רַבִּ֔ים שָׁפַ֥כְתָּ אַ֖רְצָה לְפָנָֽי: |
| 9Behold a son will be born to you; he will be a man of peace, and I shall give him peace from all his enemies around about, for Solomon will be his name, and I shall give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. |

טהִנֵּה־בֵ֞ן נוֹלָ֣ד לָ֗ךְ ה֚וּא יִֽהְיֶה֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְנוּחָ֔ה וַֽהֲנִיח֥וֹתִי ל֛וֹ מִכָּל־אֽוֹיְבָ֖יו מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֚י שְׁלֹמֹה֙ יִֽהְיֶ֣ה שְׁמ֔וֹ וְשָׁל֥וֹם וָשֶׁ֛קֶט אֶתֵּ֥ן עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּיָמָֽיו: |
| 10He shall build a House in My Name, and he shall be to Me as a son, and I to him as a Father, and I shall prepare the throne of his kingdom forever.' |
|
יהֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֙יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י וְהוּא֙ יִֽהְיֶה־לִּ֣י לְבֵ֔ן וַֽאֲנִי־ל֖וֹ לְאָ֑ב וַֽהֲכִ֨ינוֹתִ֜י כִּסֵּ֧א מַלְכוּת֛וֹ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד־עוֹלָֽם: |
| 11Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, and you shall prosper, and you shall build the House of the Lord your God, as He spoke of you. |
|
יאעַתָּ֣ה בְנִ֔י יְהִ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהִצְלַחְתָּ֗ וּבָנִ֙יתָ֙ בֵּית יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר עָלֶֽיךָ: |
| 12But may the Lord give you intelligence and understanding, and may He command you over Israel, and to keep the Law of the Lord your God. |
|
יבאַ֣ךְ יִֽתֶּן־לְּךָ֚ יְהֹוָה֙ שֵׂ֣כֶל וּבִינָ֔ה וִֽיצַוְּךָ֖ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלִשְׁמ֕וֹר אֶת־תּוֹרַ֖ת יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ: |
| 13Then you will prosper if you observe to perform the statutes and the judgments that the Lord commanded Moses over Israel; be strong and of good courage; do not fear and be not dismayed. |
|
יגאָ֣ז תַּצְלִ֔יחַ אִם־תִּשְׁמ֗וֹר לַֽעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל חֲזַ֣ק וֶֽאֱמָ֔ץ אַל־תִּירָ֖א וְאַל־תֵּחָֽת: |
| 14And behold, in my poverty, I prepared for the House of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold, a thousand thousand talents of silver, and of copper and iron without weight, for it was in abundance, and I prepared wood and stones, and you shall add to them. |
|
ידוְהִנֵּ֨ה בְעָנְיִ֜י הֲכִינ֣וֹתִי לְבֵֽית־יְהֹוָ֗ה זָהָ֞ב כִּכָּרִ֚ים מֵֽאָה־אֶ֙לֶף֙ וְכֶ֗סֶף אֶ֚לֶף אֲלָפִים֙ כִּכָּרִ֔ים וְלַנְּחֹ֚שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶל֙ אֵ֣ין מִשְׁקָ֔ל כִּ֥י לָרֹ֖ב הָיָ֑ה וְעֵצִ֧ים וַֽאֲבָנִ֛ים֙ הֲכִינ֖וֹתִי וַֽעֲלֵיהֶ֥ם תּוֹסִֽיף: |
| 15And with you in abundance are workmen, hewers and workers in stone and wood, and every skillful person in every type of work. |
|
טווְעִמְךָ֚ לָרֹב֙ עֹשֵׂ֣י מְלָאכָ֔ה חֹֽצְבִ֕ים וְחָֽרָשֵׁ֥י אֶ֖בֶן וָעֵ֑ץ וְכָל־חָכָ֖ם בְּכָל־מְלָאכָֽה: |
| 16Of gold, of silver, of copper, and of iron, there is no number. Arise and do, and may the Lord be with you." |
|
טזלַזָּהָ֥ב לַכֶּ֛סֶף וְלַנְּחֹ֥שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶ֖ל אֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר ק֣וּם וַֽעֲשֵׂ֔ה וִיהִ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה עִמָּֽךְ: |
| 17And David commanded all the princes of Israel to aid his son Solomon. |
|
יזוַיְצַ֚ו דָּוִיד֙ לְכָל־שָׂרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַֽעֲזֹ֖ר לִשְׁלֹמֹ֥ה בְנֽוֹ: |
| 18"Is not the Lord your God with you? He will give you peace round about, for He has delivered into my hands the inhabitants of the land, and the land has been conquered before the Lord and before His people. |
|
יחהֲלֹ֨א יְהֹוָ֚ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם וְהֵנִ֥יחַ לָכֶ֖ם מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֣י| נָתַ֣ן בְּיָדִ֗י אֵת יֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֥ה הָאָ֛רֶץ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה וְלִפְנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹ: |
| 19Now put your hearts and your souls to seek the Lord your God; arise and build the Sanctuary of the Lord God to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God to the House that is to be built in the name of the Lord." |
|
יטעַתָּ֗ה תְּנ֚וּ לְבַבְכֶם֙ וְנַפְשְׁכֶ֔ם לִדְר֖וֹשׁ לַֽיהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֑ם וְק֗וּמוּ וּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־מִקְדַּשׁ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהָבִ֞יא אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִֽית־יְהֹוָ֗ה וּכְלֵי֙ קֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לַבַּ֖יִת הַנִּבְנֶ֥ה לְשֵֽׁם־יְהֹוָֽה: |
