אשִׁ֗יר הַֽמַּֽ֫עֲל֥וֹת זְכוֹר־יְהֹוָ֥ה לְדָוִ֑ד אֵ֜֗ת כָּל־עֻנּוֹתֽוֹ: |
| A song of ascents. Remember, O Lord, onto David all his affliction The affliction of his soul, how he worked and toiled to find a place for You. |
|
שיר המעלות זכור ה' לדוד את כל ענותו
ענוי נפשו אשר טרח ועמל למצוא לך מקום:
|
| 2That he swore to the Lord, he vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob; |
|
באֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה נָ֜דַ֗ר לַֽאֲבִ֥יר יַֽעֲקֹֽב: |
| 3That I shall not come into the tent of my house, and I shall not go up on the bed that was spread for me. |
|
גאִם־אָ֖בֹא בְּאֹ֣הֶל בֵּיתִ֑י אִֽם־אֶֽ֜עֱלֶ֗ה עַל־עֶ֥רֶשׂ יְצוּעָֽי: |
| 4I shall not give sleep to my eyes nor slumber to my pupils, |
|
דאִם־אֶתֵּ֣ן שְׁנָ֣ת לְעֵינָ֑י לְעַפְעַפַּ֥י תְּנוּמָֽה: |
| 5Until I find a place for the Lord, dwellings for the Mighty One of Jacob. |
|
העַד־אֶמְצָ֣א מָ֖קוֹם לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה מִ֜שְׁכָּנ֗וֹת לַֽאֲבִ֥יר יַֽעֲקֹֽב: |
| Until I find a place Until it will be known where the place of His sanctuary will be. (I found this.) |

עד שיודע היכן יהיה מקום מקדש (מצאתי):

| 6Behold we heard it in Ephrath; we found it in the fields of the forest. |
|
והִנֵּֽה־שְׁמַֽעֲנ֥וּהָ בְאֶפְרָ֑תָה מְ֜צָאנ֗וּהָ בִּשְׂדֵי־יָֽעַר: |

| in Ephrath In the most esteemed and superior place, like (I Sam. 1:1): “the son of Toku, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite,” an important person, a palace dweller. Another explanation: |

באפרתה
במקום החשוב והמעולה כמו (שמואל א א׳:א׳) בן תחו בן צוף אפרתי חשוב אבגינוס, ד"א:
|
| We heard it in Ephrath In the Book of Joshua (ch. 15), who came from Ephraim. In all the boundaries he says, “And the border went up… and the border circled,” but here he says, “And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnon… Jerusalem.” Jerusalem is [therefore] found to be higher than all the lands, and it is fit for the Temple, as it is said (Deut. 17:8): “and you shall arise and ascend to the place, etc.” This teaches [us] that the Temple is higher than the whole land of Israel. So it is expounded upon in tractate Zevahim (54b). |

שמענוה באפרתה בספר יהושע (ט"ו) שבא מאפרים, בכל התחומין הוא אומר (שם) ועלה הגבול ותאר הגבול וכאן הוא אומר ועלה הגבול אל כתף היבוסי ירושלים נמצאת ירושלים גבוה מכל הארצות והוא ראוי לבית המקדש שנאמר (דברים י״ז:ח׳) וקמת ועלית אל המקום וגו' מלמד שבית המקדש גבוה מכל ארץ ישראל כך נדרש בשחיטת קדשים:

| we found it in the fields of the forest In the boundary of Benjamin, who was likened to a beast of the forest, as it is said (Gen. 49:27): “Benjamin is a devouring wolf.” |

מצאנוה בשדי יער
בגבול בנימן שנמשל לחית העיר שנאמר בנימין זאב יטרף (בראשית מ״ט:כ״ז):

| 7Let us come to His Tabernacles; let us prostrate ourselves to His footstool. |
|
זנָב֥וֹאָה לְמִשְׁכְּנוֹתָ֑יו נִ֜שְׁתַּֽחֲוֶ֗ה לַֽהֲדֹ֥ם רַגְלָֽיו: |
| Let us come there to His Tabernacles. |
|
נבואה
שמה למשכנותיו:
|
| 8Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place, You and the Ark of Your might. |
|
חקוּמָ֣ה יְ֖הֹוָה לִמְנֽוּחָתֶ֑ךָ אַ֜תָּ֗ה וַֽאֲר֥וֹן עֻזֶּֽךָ: |
| 9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Your devout ones sing praises. |
|
טכֹּֽהֲנֶ֥יךָ יִלְבְּשׁוּ־צֶ֑דֶק וַֽחֲסִידֶ֥יךָ יְרַנֵּֽנוּ: |
| 10For the sake of David Your servant, turn not away the face of Your anointed. |
|
יבַּֽעֲבוּר דָּוִ֣ד עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ אַל־תָּ֜שֵׁ֗ב פְּנֵ֣י מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ: |
| turn not away the face of Your anointed Solomon, when he comes to place the Ark therein. |

אל תשב פני משיחך
שלמה בבואו להכניס שם את הארון:
|
| 11The Lord has sworn to David in truth, from which He will never turn back, "Of the fruit of your body I shall seat upon your throne. |
|
יאנִשְׁבַּ֚ע יְהֹוָ֨ה | לְדָוִ֡ד אֱמֶת֘ לֹֽא־יָשׁ֪וּב מִ֫מֶּ֥נָּה מִפְּרִ֥י בִטְנְךָ֑ אָ֜שִׁ֗ית לְכִסֵּא־לָֽךְ: |
| 12If your sons keep My covenant, and this, My testimony, which I shall teach them, also their sons will sit on your throne forever." |
|
יבאִם־יִשְׁמְר֬וּ בָנֶ֨יךָ | בְּרִיתִי֘ וְעֵֽדֹתִ֥י ז֗וֹ אֲלַ֫מְּדֵ֥ם גַּם־בְּנֵיהֶ֥ם עֲדֵי־עַ֑ד יֵֽ֜שְׁב֗וּ לְכִסֵּא־לָֽךְ: |
| and this, My testimony, which I shall teach them This which I shall teach them. |
|
ועדותי זו אלמדם
זו אשר אלמדם:
|
| 13For the Lord has chosen Zion; He desired it for His habitation. |
|
יגכִּֽי־בָחַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּצִיּ֑וֹן אִ֜וָּ֗הּ לְמוֹשָׁ֥ב לֽוֹ: |
| 14This is My resting place forever; here I shall dwell for I desired it. |
|
ידזֹֽאת־מְנֽוּחָתִ֥י עֲדֵי־עַ֑ד פֹּ֥ה אֵ֜שֵׁ֗ב כִּ֣י אִוִּתִֽיהָ: |
| 15I shall bless its provision; I shall sate its needy with bread. |
|
טוצֵידָהּ בָּרֵ֣ךְ אֲבָרֵ֑ךְ אֶ֜בְיוֹנֶ֗יהָ אַשְׂבִּ֥יעַ לָֽחֶם: |
| its provision its food. |

צידה
מזונה:
|
| 16And its priests I shall clothe with salvation, and its devout ones will sing praises. |
|
טזוְכֹֽהֲנֶיהָ אַלְבִּ֣ישׁ יֶ֑שַׁע וַֽ֜חֲסִידֶ֗יהָ רַנֵּ֥ן יְרַנֵּֽנוּ: |
| 17There I shall cause David's horn to sprout; I have set up a lamp for My anointed. |
|
יזשָׁ֚ם | אַצְמִ֣יחַ קֶ֣רֶן לְדָוִ֑ד עָרַ֥כְתִּי נֵ֜֗ר לִמְשִׁיחִֽי: |
| 18His enemies I shall clothe with shame, and upon him his crown will shine. |
|
יחאֽוֹיְבָיו אַלְבִּ֣ישׁ בֹּ֑שֶׁת וְ֜עָלָ֗יו יָצִ֥יץ נִזְרֽוֹ: |
| will shine Heb. יציץ, which shine, like (Ezek. 1:7): “and they sparkled (ונצצים) like the color of burnished copper.” |
