איְהֹוָ֚ה אֱלֹהַי֙ אַתָּ֔ה אֲרֽוֹמִמְךָ֙ אוֹדֶ֣ה שִׁמְךָ֔ כִּ֥י עָשִׂ֖יתָ פֶּ֑לֶא עֵצ֥וֹת מֵֽרָחֹ֖ק אֱמ֥וּנָה אֹֽמֶן: |
| counsels from long ago in true faith Counsels that You advised from long ago to Abraham in the Covenant between the Parts. |

עצות מרחוק אמונה אומן
עצות שיעצת מרחוק לאברהם בברית בין הבתרים:
|
| true faith (אֱמוּנָה אֹמֶן). אֹמֶן is like אֹהֶל, tent, אֹכֶל, food, and it is not a verb in present tense but an expression of a noun, obrement (truth) in O.F. |
|
אמונה אומן
אמונה נאמנת אומן כמו אוהל אוכל ואינו ל' פועל אלא ל' מפעל אבויי"רמינט בלע"ז:
|
| 2For You made from a city a heap, a fortified city into a ruin; a palace of strangers, because of the city, it shall never be rebuilt. |
|
בכִּ֣י שַׂ֚מְתָּ מֵעִיר֙ לַגָּ֔ל קִרְיָ֥ה בְצוּרָ֖ה לְמַפֵּלָ֑ה אַרְמ֚וֹן זָרִים֙ מֵעִ֔יר לְעוֹלָ֖ם לֹ֥א יִבָּנֶֽה: |
| For You have made Mount Seir from a city into a heap. |
|
כי שמת
הר שעיר מעיר לגל:
|
| a palace of strangers, because of the city Because of the iniquity they committed in Your city, that they destroyed it, You shall make its palaces a ruin, which shall never be rebuilt. |
|
ארמון זרים מעיר
מעון שעשו בעירך שהחריבוה תתן ארמונותיה חורבן אשר לעולם לא יבנה:
|
| 3Therefore, shall a strong people honor You; a city of tyrannical nations shall fear You. |
|
געַל־כֵּ֖ן יְכַבְּד֣וּךָ עַם־עָ֑ז קִרְיַ֛ת גּוֹיִ֥ם עָֽרִיצִ֖ים יִֽירָאֽוּךָ: |
| 4For You were a fortress for the poor, a fortress for the pauper in time of his distress, a shelter from pouring rain, a shade from heat, for the spirit of the tyrants is like a flood against a wall. |
|
דכִּֽי־הָיִ֨יתָ מָע֥וֹז לַדָּ֛ל מָע֥וֹז לָֽאֶבְי֖וֹן בַּצַּר־ל֑וֹ מַחְסֶ֚ה מִזֶּ֙רֶם֙ צֵ֣ל מֵחֹ֔רֶב כִּ֛י ר֥וּחַ עָֽרִיצִ֖ים כְּזֶ֥רֶם קִֽיר: |
| a shelter from pouring rain a covering of a tent to save from pouring rain and a shade to protect from heat. Now, what is that pouring rain? A spirit of tyrants, for their spirit is like a stream that floods the wall and causes it to fall. |

מחסה מזרם
כיסוי אהל להציל מזרם וצל להגין מחורב ומהו אותו זרם הוא רוח עריצים כי רוחם דימה לזרם השוטף בקיר ומפילו:
|
| 5Like heat in the dry season, a multitude of strangers You shall humble; like heat with a thick cloud, so shall the downfall of the tyrants be sung. |
|
הכְּחֹ֣רֶב בְּצָי֔וֹן שְׁא֥וֹן זָרִ֖ים תַּכְנִ֑יעַ חֹרֶב בְּצֵ֣ל עָ֔ב זְמִ֥יר עָֽרִיצִ֖ים יַֽעֲנֶֽה: |
| Like heat in the dry season In the dry season, when the seeds dry out to be cut off, so shall You humble the multitude of the strangers. |
|
כחורב בציון
בעת יובש שמייבש הזרעים להתמולל כן תכניע שאון זרים:
|
| like heat with a thick cloud When the heavens thicken with thick clouds in the hot season, with which everyone rejoices, so will the song of the righteous be sung concerning the cutting down of the tyrants and their downfall. |
|
חורב בצל עב
כשהמים מתקשרים בענן עב בימי השרב שהכל שמחים בו כן יענה שיר הצדיקים על זמיר עריצים ומפלתן:
|
| the downfall of (lit., the cutting down of. זְמִיר). An expression related to (Lev. 25:4): “You shall not prune (תִזְמֹר).” |

| 6And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples on this mount, a feast of fat things, a feast of dregs; fat things full of marrow, dregs well refined. |
|
ווְעָשָׂה֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת לְכָל־הָֽעַמִּים֙ בָּהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה מִשְׁתֵּ֥ה שְׁמָנִ֖ים מִשְׁתֵּ֣ה שְׁמָרִ֑ים שְׁמָנִים֙ מְמֻ֣חָיִ֔ם שְׁמָרִ֖ים מְזֻקָּקִֽים: |
| And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples when they come to mobilize against Jerusalem. |
|
ועשה ה' צבאות לכל העמים
כשיבאו לצבא על ירושלים:
|
| a feast of fat things which they think that it will be easy for them like fat, which is smooth and soft, will be converted for them to a feast of dregs. |
|
משתה שמנים
שהם סבורים שיהא נוח להם כשמן יהפוך למשתה שמרים:
|
| fat things full of marrow soft and fat like the marrow of bones, will be dregs well refined from any liquid of wine or oil, for there will be there only the dregs. All this will be in the war of Gog and Magog. |
|
שמנים ממחים
נוחים ושמנים כמוח עצמות יהיה שמרים מזוקקים מכל משקה שמן ויין שלא יהא שם אלא שמרים לבדם וכל זה במלחמות גוג ומגוג:
|
| 7And He shall destroy on this mountain the face of the covering that covers all the peoples and the kingdom that rules over all the nations. |
|
זוּבִלַּע֙ בָּהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה פְּנֵֽי־הַלּ֥וֹט | הַלּ֖וֹט עַל־כָּל־הָֽעַמִּ֑ים וְהַמַּסֵּכָ֥ה הַנְּסוּכָ֖ה עַל־כָּל־הַגּוֹיִֽם: |
| the covering The covering that covers all the people. Heb. הלוט, similar to “he wrapped his face” (I Kings 19:13), and to “behold, it is wrapped in a garment” (I Samuel 21:10). |

הכסוי הלוט על [כל] העמים. המכסה את כל העמים, הלוט כמו וילט פניו (מלכים א' יט) הנה היא לוטה בשמלה (שמואל א כ״א:י׳):

| and the kingdom (Heb. וְהַמַּסֵּכָה.) An expression of kingdom and ruling. |

המסכה
לשון נסיכות ושררה:
|
| 8He has concealed death forever, and the Lord God shall wipe the tears off every face, and the shame of His people He shall remove from upon the entire earth, for the Lord has spoken. |

חבִּלַּ֚ע הַמָּ֙וֶת֙ לָנֶ֔צַח וּמָחָ֨ה אֲדֹנָ֧י יֱהֹוִ֛ה דִּמְעָ֖ה מֵעַ֣ל כָּל־פָּנִ֑ים וְחֶרְפַּ֣ת עַמּ֗וֹ יָסִיר֙ מֵעַ֣ל כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר: |
| He has concealed death He will cover it and hide it forever from Israel. |

בלע המות
יכסנו ויעלימנו עולמי' מישראל:
|
| 9And they shall say on that day, "Behold, this is our God: we hoped for Him that He would save us; this is the Lord for Whom we hoped; let us rejoice and be happy with His salvation. |
|
טוְאָמַר֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא הִנֵּ֨ה אֱלֹהֵ֥ינוּ זֶ֛ה קִוִּ֥ינוּ ל֖וֹ וְיֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נוּ זֶ֚ה יְהֹוָה֙ קִוִּ֣ינוּ ל֔וֹ נָגִ֥ילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָ֖ה בִּישֽׁוּעָתֽוֹ: |
| And they shall say (Lit., and he shall say, i.e.,) His people (shall say) on that day, “Behold, etc.” |

ואמר
עמו ביום ההוא הנה וגו':
|
| we hoped for Him that he would save us We were hoping for Him that He would save us. |
|
קוינו לו ויושיענו
היינו מקוים לו שיושיענו:
|
| 10For the hand of the Lord shall rest on this mount, and Moab shall be trampled in its place as the straw is trampled in the mire. |
|
יכִּֽי־תָנ֥וּחַ יַד־יְהֹוָ֖ה בָּהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וְנָ֚דוֹשׁ מוֹאָב֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו כְּהִדּ֥וּשׁ מַתְבֵּ֖ן בְּמ֥וֹ (כתיב בְּמֹ֥י) מַדְמֵנָֽה: |
| For the hand of the Lord shall rest The might of the Omnipresent. |
|
כי תנוח יד ה'
גבורתו של מקו':

|
ונדוש
יהא נדוש:
|
| in its place (תַּחְתָּיו, lit., under him,) in its place. וְנָדוֹשׁ is of the same structure as (Eccl. 12: 6) “And the wheel is crushed (וְנָרוֹץ),” the “nun” indicating the passive voice. |

במקומו ונדוש כמו ונרוץ הגלגל (קהלת יב):

| mire (מַדְמֵנָה) mire. Comp. (Jer. 8:2) “For dung (לְדֹמֶן) on the face of the earth.” |

מדמנה
טיט וכן לדומן על פני האדמה (ירמיה טו):
|
| 11And he shall spread out his hands in his midst as the swimmer spreads out [his hands] to swim and He shall humble his haughtiness [together] with the cunning of His hands. |
|
יאוּפֵרַ֚שׂ יָדָיו֙ בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְפָרֵ֥שׂ הַשּׂחֶ֖ה לִשְׂח֑וֹת וְהִשְׁפִּיל֙ גַּֽאֲוָת֔וֹ עִ֖ם אָרְבּ֥וֹת יָדָֽיו: |
| And he shall spread out his hands (וּפֵרַשׂ) He shall break his hands and his arms by clapping his hands in weeping. |
|
ופרש ידיו
ושבר ידון וזרועותיו בספוק כפים בבכי:
|
| the swimmer (הַשׂחֶה) the one who floats upon the water. |
|
השוחה
השט במים:
|
| to swim (לִשְׂחוֹת) to float, as: (Ezekiel 47:5) “Water fit to swim in (מֵי שָׂחוּ).” |
|
לשחות
לשוט וכן מי שחו (יחזקאל מז י'):
|
| and He shall humble the One Who humbles his haughtiness. |
|
והשפיל
המשפיל את גאוותו:
|
| with the cunning of His hands (אָרְבוֹת,) an expression similar to (Deut. 19:11): “And he lay in wait for him (וְאָרַב).” Jonathan renders: The layings of His hands. The place where He lays His hands to lie in wait. These are the high towers. אַשְׁוַת is an expression of walls and towers, as: (Jer. 50:15) “Her walls fell (אָשְׁיוֹתֶיהָ).” |

עם ארבות ידיו
לשון וארב לו (דברים יט) תירגם יונתן אשוות ידוהי מקום שהוא שם לו ידים לארוב והם מגדלים גבוהים אשוות חומות ומגדלים כמו (ירמיה ג) נפלו אשיותיה:

| 12And the fortress of the strength of your walls He humbled. He brought it low; it reached the earth down to the dust. |
|
יבוּמִבְצַ֞ר מִשְׂגַּ֣ב חֽוֹמֹתֶ֗יךָ הֵשַׁ֥ח הִשְׁפִּ֛יל הִגִּ֥יעַ לָאָ֖רֶץ עַד־עָפָֽר: |
| the strength of your walls He addresses Moab. |
|
משגב חומותיך
למואב הוא אומר:
