Chapter 20

1In those days Hezekiah became critically ill, when Isaiah the son of Amoz the prophet came to him, and said to him, "So has the Lord said, 'Give orders to your household, for you are going to die and you shall not live.' "   אבַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לָמ֑וּת וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵ֠לָיו יְשַׁעְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אָמ֜וֹץ הַנָּבִ֗יא וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֚ר יְהֹוָה֙ צַ֣ו לְבֵיתֶ֔ךָ כִּ֛י מֵ֥ת אַתָּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תִֽחְיֶֽה:
In those days: Three days before Sennacherib’s downfall.   בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם: שְׁלשָׁה יָמִים לִפְנֵי מַפַּלְתּוֹ שֶל סַנְחֵרִיב.
Hezekiah became ill: and the third day, when he went up to the house of the Lord, was the day of Sennacherib’s downfall, and it was the [first] festive day of Passover.   חָלָה חִזְקִיָּהוּ: וְיוֹם שְׁלִישִׁי כְּשֶׁעָלָה בֵּית ה', יוֹם מַפַּלְתּוֹ שֶל סַנְחֵרִיב, וְיוֹם טוֹב שֶל פֶּסַח הָיָה.
for you are going to die: in this world.   כִּי מֵת אַתָּה: בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה.
and you shall not live: in the world to come, for you have not married, as it is stated in Berachoth 10b.   וְלֹא תִחְיֶה: לָעוֹלָם הַבָּא, מִשּׁוּם דְּלָא נָסַבְתְּ אִשָּׁה, כִּדְאִיתָא בִּבְרָכוֹת.
2And he turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,   בוַיַּסֵּ֥ב אֶת־פָּנָ֖יו אֶל־הַקִּ֑יר וַיִּ֨תְפַּלֵּ֔ל אֶל־יְהֹוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר:
3"Please, O Lord, remember now, how I walked before You truly and wholeheartedly, and I did what is good in Your eyes." And Hezekiah wept profusely.   גאָנָּ֣ה יְהֹוָ֗ה זְכָר־נָ֞א אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנֶ֗יךָ בֶּֽאֱמֶת֙ וּבְלֵבָ֣ב שָׁלֵ֔ם וְהַטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ עָשִֹ֑יתִי וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֽוֹל:
4And it was when Isaiah had not gone out to the inner court, and the word of the Lord came to him, saying,   דוַיְהִ֣י יְשַׁעְיָ֔הוּ לֹ֣א יָצָ֔א חָצֵ֖ר (כתיב הָעֵ֖יר) הַתִּֽיכֹנָ֑ה וּדְבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה הָיָ֥ה אֵלָ֖יו לֵאמֹֽר:
had not gone out to the inner court…: The Holy One, Blessed be He, hastened to inform him of his cure before the report would spread in the city that the death sentence had been decreed as a punishment upon Hezekiah, as is stated in Yerushalmi (Sanhedrin 10:2).   לֹא יָצָא חָצֵר וְגוֹ': מִהֵר הַקָּבָּ"ה לְהוֹדִיעַ רְפוּאָתוֹ, בְּטֶרֶם יֵצֵא קוֹל הֲבָרָה בָּעִיר שֶׁנִּקְנְסָה עָלָיו מִיתָה, כִּדְאִיתָא בִּירוּשַׁלְמִי.
5"Return and say to Hezekiah the ruler of My people, 'So has the Lord God of your father David said, "I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold I shall heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.   השׁ֣וּב וְאָמַרְתָּ֞ אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ נְגִיד־עַמִּ֗י כֹּֽה־אָמַ֚ר יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֔יךָ שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָ רָאִ֖יתִי אֶת־דִּמְעָתֶ֑ךָ הִנְנִי֙ רֹ֣פֵא לָ֔ךְ בַּיּוֹם֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י תַּעֲלֶ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה:
6And I will add fifteen years to your life and I will save you from the hand of the king of Assyria, I will save you and this city, and I will protect this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.' "   ווְהֹסַפְתִּ֣י עַל־יָמֶ֗יךָ חֲמֵ֚שׁ עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּמִכַּ֚ף מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר֙ אַצִּ֣ילְךָ֔ וְאֵ֖ת הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את וְגַנּוֹתִי֙ עַל־הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את לְמַֽעֲנִ֔י וּלְמַ֖עַן דָּוִ֥ד עַבְדִּֽי:
and I will save you from the hand of the king of Assyria: We learn that before Sennacherib’s downfall he became ill.   וּמִכַּף מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר אַצִּילְךָ: לָמַדְנוּ שֶׁלִּפְנֵי מַפָּלָתּוֹ שֶל סַנְחֵרִיב חָלָה.
7And Isaiah said, "Take a cake of pressed figs." And they took [one] and placed it on the boil, and it was healed.   זוַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ קְח֖וּ דְּבֶ֣לֶת תְּאֵנִ֑ים וַיִּקְח֛וּ וַיָּשִֹ֥ימוּ עַֽל־הַשְּׁחִ֖ין וַיֶּֽחִי:
a cake of pressed figs: [Heb. דְבֶלֶת תְּאֵנִים, lit. a pressed cake of figs.] When they are fresh, they are called תְּאֵנִים, figs, and when they are pressed into a round cake, they are called דְּבֵלָה.   דְּבֶלֶת תְּאֵנִים: כְּשֶׁהֵם לַחִין קְרוּיִין תְּאֵנִים, וּכְשֶׁנִּדְרָסִים בְּעִגּוּל קְרוּיִין דְּבֵלָה.
and placed it on the boil, and it was healed: [This was] a miracle within a miracle, for even healthy flesh - when you place a cake of pressed figs upon it, decays, yet the Holy One, Blessed be He, puts an injurious substance upon vulnerable tissue and it becomes healed.   וַיָּשִׂימוּ עַל הַשְּׁחִין וַיֶּחִי: וְנֵס בְּתוֹךְ נֵס, שֶׁהֲרֵי אַף בָּשָׂר חַי כְּשֶׁאַתָּה נוֹתֵן עָלָיו דְּבֵלָה, נִסְרָח, וְהַקָּבָּ"ה נוֹתֵן דָּבָר הַמְחַבֵּל לְתוֹךְ דָּבָר שֶׁנִּתְחַבֵּל, וּמִתְרַפֵּא.
8And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?"   חוַיֹּ֚אמֶר חִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ אֶֽל־יְשַׁעְיָ֔הוּ מָ֣ה א֔וֹת כִּֽי־יִרְפָּ֥א יְהֹוָ֖ה לִ֑י וְעָלִ֛יתִי בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֖י בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה:
9And Isaiah said, "This is your sign from the Lord, that the Lord will fulfill the word that He spoke. Shall the shade advance ten steps or shall it come back ten steps?"   טוַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְשַׁעְיָ֗הוּ זֶה־לְּךָ֚ הָאוֹת֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּי יַעֲשֶֹ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר הָלַ֚ךְ הַצֵּל֙ עֶ֣שֶׂר מַֽעֲל֔וֹת אִם־יָשׁ֖וּב עֶ֥שֶׂר מַעֲלֽוֹת:
The shade has advanced ten steps. Shall it come back ten steps?: This is an abbreviated verse. The shade has already advanced to the steps (from the steps - Rashi ms., on the steps - R. J. Kara) that are made for the hours of the day like the clocks (horloge in French) that people (sic) (craftsmen - R. J. Kara; Rashi, Isaiah 38:8; the sectarians Parshandatha ibid.; R. J. Kara in Lublin ed.) make to determine the hours of the day. Do you wish it to wait in the place where it is, as long as it takes to go in ten hours, or should it go back up ten steps so that it will appear as though it is morning?   הָלַךְ הַצֵּל עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת אִם יָשׁוּב עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת: הֲרֵי זֶה מִקְרָא קָצָר, כְּבָר יָרַד הַצֵּל לְמַעֲלוֹת הָעֲשׂוּיוֹת לִשְׁעוֹת הַיּוֹם, כְּמוֹ אורלויי"ן בְּלַעַ"ז (שָׁעוֹן), שֶׁעוֹשִׂין הָאֲנָשִׁים לִבְחֹן שְׁעוֹת הַיּוֹם, חָפֵץ אַתָּה שֶׁיַּמְתִּין בְּמָקוֹם שֶׁהוּא שָׁם כְּדֵי מַהֲלַךְ עֶשֶׂר שָׁעוֹת, אוֹ יָשׁוּב לְמַעְלָה עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת, וִיהֵא נִרְאֶה כְּאִלּוּ הוּא שַׁחֲרִית.
10And Hezekiah said, "It is easy for the shade to advance ten steps. Not so; let it return ten steps."   יוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ נָקֵ֣ל לַצֵּ֔ל לִנְט֖וֹת עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֑וֹת לֹ֣א כִ֔י יָשׁ֥וּב הַצֵּ֛ל אֲחֹרַנִּ֖ית עֶ֥שֶׂר מַעֲלֽוֹת:
It is easy for the shade to recline for ten steps: It is an easy thing to recline in its place, reclining and standing still for ten steps. It is not so conspicuous. Not so, but let the shade go back, and the thing will be a marvel, for they saw that the day was turning toward evening, and it returns to be morning.   וַיֹּאמֶר יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ נָקֵל לַצֵּל לִנְטוֹת עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת: דָּבָר קַל הוּא לִנְטוֹת בִּמְקוֹמוֹ, וְנוֹטֶה וְעוֹמֵד עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת אֵינוֹ דָּבָר הַנִּכָּר כָּל כָּךְ, לֹא כֵן אֶלָּא יָשׁוּב הַצֵּל, וְיִהְיֶה הַדָּבָר תֵּמַהּ, שֶׁרָאוּ שֶׁפָּנָה הַיּוֹם לַעֲרֹב, וְחוֹזֵר לִהְיוֹת בֹּקֶר.
11And the prophet Isaiah called to the Lord, and He brought back the shade on the steps that it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz, backwards ten steps.   יאוַיִּקְרָ֛א יְשַׁעְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִ֖יא אֶל־יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיָּ֣שֶׁב אֶת־הַצֵּ֗ל בַּֽ֠מַּעֲלוֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָרְדָ֜ה בְּמַעֲל֥וֹת אָחָ֛ז אֲחֹֽרַנִּ֖ית עֶ֥שֶׂר מַעֲלֽוֹת:
that it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz: The day that Ahaz died, the day was shortened, and the shade hastened to advance ten steps, lest he be eulogized, and those ten hours returned now to Hezekiah.   אֲשֶׁר יָרְדָה בְּמַעֲלוֹת אָחָז: יוֹם שֶׁמֵּת אָחָז, נִתְקַצֵּר הַיּוֹם וּמִהֵר הַצֵּל לֵירֵד עֶשֶׂר מַעֲלוֹת, כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא יְהֵא נִסְפָּד, וְאוֹתָן עֶשֶׂר שָׁעוֹת חָזְרוּ עַכְשָׁיו לְחִזְקִיָּהוּ.
12At that time, Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, the king of Babylonia, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill.   יבבָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֡יא שָׁלַ֡ח בְּרֹאדַ֣ךְ בַּ֠לְאֲדָן בֶּֽן־בַּלְאֲדָ֧ן מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֛ל סְפָרִ֥ים וּמִנְחָ֖ה אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֔ע כִּ֥י חָלָ֖ה חִזְקִיָּֽהוּ:
for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill: and until that time no person had ever been ill and had become well. Now, how did he hear? He was accustomed to eating after three hours had elapsed in the day, and he would sleep until after the ninth hour. Since the sphere of the sun had gone backwards, he awoke after nine hours and found that it was morning. He sought to kill his servants. He said, “You let me sleep a day and a night.” They replied, “The sphere of the sun went back.” He said to them, “Who brought it back?” They said to him, “The God of Hezekiah.” As is stated in Pesikta (d’Rav Kahana p. 14a).   כִּי שָׁמַע כִּי חָלָה: וְעַד אוֹתוֹ הַיּוֹם לֹא הָיָה אָדָם חוֹלֶה וְחָיָה, וְאֵיךְ שָׁמַע, לָמוּד הָיָה לֶאֱכֹל בְּשָׁלשׁ שָׁעוֹת בַּיּוֹם, וְיָשַׁן עַד תֵּשַׁע, כֵּיוָן שֶׁחָזַר גַּלְגַּל חַמָּה לְחִזְקִיָּהוּ, נֵעוֹר בְּתֶשַׁע שָׁעוֹת וּמָצָא שֶׁהוּא שַׁחֲרִית, בִּקֵּשׁ לַהֲרֹג אֶת עֲבָדָיו, אָמַר: אַתֶּם הִנַּחְתֶּם אוֹתִי לִישֹׁן יוֹם וָלַיְלָה, אָמְרוּ: גַּלְגַּל חַמָּה חָזַר, אָמַר לָהֶם: מִי הֶחֱזִירוֹ, אָמְרוּ לוֹ: אֱלֹהָיו שֶל חִזְקִיָּהוּ, כִּדְאִיתָא בִּפְסִיקְתָּא.
13And Hezekiah listened to them, and he showed them his entire treasure-house, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the good oil, and the entire house in which he kept his vessels, and everything that was found in his treasuries; there was nothing that Hezekiah did not show them in his palace and in his kingdom.   יגוַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע עֲלֵיהֶם֘ חִזְקִיָּהוּ֒ וַיַּרְאֵ֣ם אֶת־כָּל־בֵּ֣ית נְכֹתֹ֡ה אֶת־הַכֶּסֶף֩ וְאֶת־הַזָּהָ֨ב וְאֶת־הַבְּשָׂמִ֜ים וְאֵ֣ת | שֶׁ֣מֶן הַטּ֗וֹב וְאֵת֙ בֵּ֣ית כֵּלָ֔יו וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִמְצָ֖א בְּאֽוֹצְרֹתָ֑יו לֹֽא־הָיָ֣ה דָבָ֗ר אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־הֶרְאָ֧ם חִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ בְּבֵית֖וֹ וּבְכָל־מֶמְשַׁלְתּֽוֹ:
his treasure-house: [Heb. בֵּית נְכֹתוֹ] the storehouse of his spices, like (Gen. 37:25) “spices (נְכֹאת), balm and lotus.”   בֵּית נְכֹתֹה: בֵּית גִּנְזֵי בְּשָׂמָיו, כְּמוֹ: נְכֹאת וּצְרִי וָלֹט.
and the good oil: Some interpret this as the anointing oil (Ex. 30:22 33), and others interpret it as balsam oil, which is found in Eretz Israel, as it is said (Ezek. 27: 17), “Judah and the land of Israel, they were your merchants, with wheat of Minnith and Pannag.” I saw in the book of Josephon (book 4, ch. 22), Pannag is balsam, and it grows in Jericho. Because of the aroma (רֵיחַ), it is called Jericho (יְרִיחוֹ).   וְאֵת שֶׁמֶן הַטּוֹב: יֵשׁ פּוֹתְרִין שֶׁמֶן הַמִּשְׁחָה, וְיֵשׁ פּוֹתְרִים שֶׁמֶן אֲפַרְסְמוֹן (בלסמון), שֶׁהוּא מָצוּי בְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: יְהוּדָה וְיִשְׂרָאֵל הֵמָּה רֹכְלָיִךְ בְּחִטֵּי מִנִּית וּפַנַּג. וְרָאִיתִי בְסֵפֶר יוֹסִיפוּן: פַּנַּג הוּא אֲפַרְסְמוֹן, וְגָדֵל בִּירִיחוֹ, וְעַל שֵׁם הָרֵיחַ נִקְרָא יְרִיחוֹ.
there was nothing: Even the Ark, the Tablets, and the Scroll of the Law.   לֹא הָיָה דָבָר: אֶת הָאָרוֹן וְהַלּוּחוֹת וְסֵפֶר הַתּוֹרָה.
14And Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, "What did these men say, and whence did they come to you?" And Hezekiah said, "They have come from a distant country-from Babylonia."   ידוַיָּבֹא֙ יְשַֽׁעְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֔יא אֶל־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו מָ֥ה אָמְר֣וּ | הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה וּמֵאַ֙יִן֙ יָבֹ֣אוּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ מֵאֶ֧רֶץ רְחוֹקָ֛ה בָּ֖אוּ מִבָּבֶֽל:
They have come from a distant country: This is one of the three whom the Holy One, Blessed be He, tested and found them to be a vessel of turbid water: Cain, Balaam, and Hezekiah. Cain said (Gen. 4:9), “I know not. Am I my brother’s keeper?” He should have said, Lord of the Universe! Are all hidden things not revealed to You? As it is stated in Tanhuma. Balaam, when the Omnipresent said to him (Num. 22:9), “Who are these men with you?” he should have said, “O Lord God, You know!” as it is said concerning Ezekiel (37:3). Yet he retorted arrogantly (Num. 22:10), “Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent them to me.” Many people seek me. Hezekiah should have replied to Isaiah, “You are the prophet of the Omnipresent. Yet you ask me?” Instead, Hezekiah commenced to become haughty, and said (Is. 39:3), “They have come to me from a distant land.” Therefore, he was punished, and because he rejoiced over them and served them at his table.   מֵאֶרֶץ רְחוֹקָה בָּאוּ: זֶה אֶחָד מִשְּׁלשָׁה שֶׁבְּדָקָן הַקָּבָּ"ה וּמְצָאָן עָבִיט שֶל מַיִם עֲכוּרִים, קַיִן, יְחִזְקִיָּהוּ, וּבִלְעָם. קַיִן: לֹא יָדַעְתִּי הֲשׁוֹמֵר אָחִי אָנֹכִי, הָיָה לוֹ לוֹמַר רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶל עוֹלָם הֲלֹא כָל הַנִּסְתָּרוֹת גְּלוּיוֹת לְךָ, כִּדְאִיתָא בְּתַנְחוּמָא; בִּלְעָם, שֶׁאָמַר לוֹ הַמָּקוֹם: מִי הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה עִמָּךְ, הָיָה לוֹ לוֹמַר ה' אֱלֹהִים אַתָּה יָדָעְתָּ, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר בִּיחֶזְקֵאל, וְהוּא הֵשִׁיב בְּגַאֲוָה: בָּלָק בֶּן צִפּוֹר מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב שָׁלַח אֵלַי, הַרְבֵּה מְבַקְּשִׁים יֵשׁ לִי; חִזְקִיָּהוּ, הָיָה לוֹ לְהָשִׁיב לִישַׁעְיָהוּ, אַתָּה נְבִיאוֹ שֶל מָקוֹם, וְאַתָּה שׁוֹאֵל אֵלַי, הִתְחִיל חִזְקִיָּה מִתְגָּאֶה וְאָמַר: מֵאֶרֶץ רְחוֹקָה בָּאוּ אֵלַי, לְכָךְ נֶעֱנַשׁ, וְעַל שֶׁשָּׂמַח עֲלֵיהֶם וְהֶאֱכִילָם עַל שֻׁלְחָנוֹ.
15And he said, "What did they see in your palace?" And Hezekiah said, "They saw everything that is in my palace. There was nothing that I did not show them in my treasuries."   טווַיֹּ֕אמֶר מָ֥ה רָא֖וּ בְּבֵיתֶ֑ךָ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ אֵ֣ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֚ר בְּבֵיתִי֙ רָא֔וּ לֹא־הָיָ֥ה דָבָ֛ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־הִרְאִיתִ֖ם בְּאֹצְרֹתָֽי:
16And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hearken to the word of the Lord.   טזוַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְשַׁעְיָ֖הוּ אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ שְׁמַ֖ע דְּבַר־יְהֹוָֽה:
17Behold a time will come when everything in your palace and what your forefathers have stored up, will be carried off to Babylonia; nothing shall remain," said the Lord.   יזהִנֵּה֘ יָמִ֣ים בָּאִים֒ וְנִשָּׂ֣א | כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּבֵיתֶ֗ךָ וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר אָצְר֧וּ אֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ עַד־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה בָּבֶ֑לָה לֹֽא־יִוָּתֵ֥ר דָּבָ֖ר אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה:
nothing shall remain: You shall be paid in kind, [corresponding to] “There was nothing” (v. 15).   לֹא יִוָּתֵר דָּבָר: מִדָּה כְּנֶגֶד מִדָּה, לֹא הָיָה דָּבָר.
18And they will take [some] of your sons, who will issue from you, whom you will beget, and they will be officers in the palace of the king of Babylonia."   יחוּמִבָּנֶ֜יךָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יֵצְא֧וּ מִמְּךָ֛ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תּוֹלִ֖יד יִקָּ֑חוּ (כתיב יִקָּ֑חֻ) וְהָיוּ֙ סָֽרִיסִ֔ים בְּהֵיכַ֖ל מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶֽל:
And…[some] of your sons: Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.   וּמִבָּנֶיךָ: חֲנַנְיָה מִישָׁאֵל וַעֲזַרְיָה.
19And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good." For he thought, "Is it not so, if there will be peace and truth in my days?"   יטוַיֹּ֚אמֶר חִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ אֶֽל־יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ ט֥וֹב דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבַּ֑רְתָּ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הֲל֛וֹא אִם־שָׁל֥וֹם וֶאֱמֶ֖ת יִהְיֶ֥ה בְיָמָֽי:
The word of the Lord… is good: since there will be peace in my days.   טוֹב דְּבַר ה': מֵאַחַר שֶׁבְּיָמַי יִהְיֶה שָׁלוֹם.
20And the rest of the events of Hezekiah and all his mighty deeds, and how he made the conduit and the pool, and he brought the water into the city, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.   כוְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֚י חִזְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ וְכָל־גְּב֣וּרָת֔וֹ וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָֹ֗ה אֶת־הַבְּרֵכָה֙ וְאֶת־הַתְּעָלָ֔ה וַיָּבֵ֥א אֶת־הַמַּ֖יִם הָעִ֑ירָה הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה:
and how he made the conduit and the pool: in Chronicles.   וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה אֶת הַבְּרֵכָה וְגוֹ': בְּדִבְרֵי הַיָּמִים.
21And Hezekiah slept with his forefathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.   כאוַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ מְנַשֶּׁ֥ה בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו:
