Australian City First to Celebrate Completion of Daily Study
June 17, 2008
Owing to its position at the edge of the Eastern Hemisphere, the Jewish community of Sydney, Australia, was the first in the world to celebrate this year’s completion of the daily study of Maimonides’ legal compendium known as the Mishneh Torah. Hosted by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Feldman, rabbinic administrator at The Yeshiva Centre – Chabad-Lubavitch’s regional headquarters in New South Wales – the gathering, known as a siyum, also marked the beginning of the 27th cycle of learning the legal code. Some 130 men, women and children attended.
