The Six Day War took a toll on the IDF forces; 550 fallen soldiers. Chabad-Lubavitch immediately began programs for the widows and children of these IDF heroes. Mrs. Shifra Golombovitz, the wife of a slain "Chabadnik" soldier, headed this effort. She arranged holiday programs, a camp, and grand Bar and Bat Mitzvahs for the orphans. Following the war, the family of every slain soldier received a financial compensation package from the government. Golombovitz selflessly used this money allotted to her to purchase tefillin for all the orphans!
