אהַֽלְלוּיָ֨הּ | הוֹד֣וּ לַֽיהֹוָ֣ה כִּי־ט֑וֹב כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ: |
2Who can narrate the mighty deeds of the Lord? [Who] can make heard all His praise? |
|
במִ֣י יְ֖מַלֵּל גְּבוּר֣וֹת יְהֹוָ֑ה יַ֜שְׁמִ֗יעַ כָּל־תְּהִלָּתֽוֹ: |
3Fortunate are those who keep justice, who perform righteousness at all times. |
|
גאַשְׁרֵי שֹֽׁמְרֵ֣י מִשְׁפָּ֑ט עֹשֵׂ֖ה צְדָקָ֣ה בְכָל־עֵֽת: |
4Remember me, O Lord, when You favor Your people; be mindful of me with Your salvation. |
|
דזָכְרֵ֣נִי יְ֖הֹוָה בִּרְצ֣וֹן עַמֶּ֑ךָ פָּ֜קְדֵ֗נִי בִּישֽׁוּעָתֶֽךָ: |
when You favor Your people. When You show goodwill to Your people. |
|
ברצון עמך.
בהרצותך לעמך:
|
5To see the goodness of Your chosen ones, to rejoice with the joy of Your nation, to boast with Your inheritance. |
|
הלִרְא֚וֹת | בְּט֘וֹבַ֚ת בְּחִירֶ֗יךָ לִ֖שְׂמֹחַ בְּשִׂמְחַ֣ת גּוֹיֶ֑ךָ לְ֜הִתְהַלֵּ֗ל עִם־נַֽחֲלָתֶֽךָ: |
6We sinned with our forefathers; we committed iniquity and wickedness. |
|
וחָטָ֥אנוּ עִם־אֲבוֹתֵ֗ינוּ הֶֽעֱוִ֥ינוּ הִרְשָֽׁעְנוּ: |
7Our forefathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; they did not remember Your manifold deeds of kindness, and they were rebellious by the sea, by the Sea of Reeds. |
|
זאֲב֘וֹתֵ֚ינוּ בְמִצְרַ֨יִם | לֹֽא־הִשְׂכִּ֬ילוּ נִפְלְאוֹתֶ֗יךָ לֹ֣א זָֽ֖כְרוּ אֶת־רֹ֣ב חֲסָדֶ֑יךָ וַיַּמְר֖וּ עַל־יָ֣ם בְּיַם־סֽוּף: |
and they were rebellious by the sea. They had little faith; they said, “Just as we ascend from here, from this side, the Egyptians also are ascending from another side, and they will come after us,” until the Holy One, blessed be He, hinted to the sea, and it vomited them out onto the dry land. Then (Exod. 15:30) “Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.” Therefore (ibid. verse 31) “they believed in the Lord,” but in the beginning, they did not believe. I found this. |

וימרו על ים.
היו מקטני אמנה אמרו כשם שאנו עולים מכאן מצד זה אף המצריים עולים מצד אחר ויבואו אחרינו עד שרמז הקב"ה לים והקיאם ליבשה אז וירא ישראל את מצרים מת על שפת הים (שמות י"ד:ל') לפיכך ויאמינו בה', אבל מתחלה לא האמינו (מצאתי):

8And He saved them for His name's sake, to make known His might. |
|
חוַיּ֣וֹשִׁיעֵם לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמ֑וֹ לְ֜הוֹדִ֗יעַ אֶת־גְּבֽוּרָתֽוֹ: |
9And He rebuked the Sea of Reeds, and it dried up, and He led them in the depths as [in] a desert. |
|
טוַיִּגְעַ֣ר בְּיַם־ס֖וּף וַיֶּֽחֱרָ֑ב וַיּֽוֹלִיכֵ֥ם בַּ֜תְּהֹמ֗וֹת כַּמִּדְבָּֽר: |
and He led them in the depths in the desert. The Sea of Reeds was in the desert, for it is written (Exod. 14:13): “the desert has closed upon them, etc.;” (Exod. 3:18): “three days’ journey in the desert.” |
|
ויוליכם בתהומות כמדבר.
ים סוף היה במדבר דכתיב סגר עליהם המדבר וגו' (שם י"ד) דרך שלשת ימים וגו' (במדבר י׳:ל״ג):
|
10He saved them from the hand of the enemy, and He redeemed them from the hand of the foe. |
|
יוַיּ֣וֹשִׁיעֵם מִיַּ֣ד שׂוֹנֵ֑א וַ֜יִּגְאָלֵ֗ם מִיַּ֥ד אוֹיֵֽב: |
11And the water covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. |
|
יאוַיְכַסּוּ־מַ֥יִם צָרֵיהֶ֑ם אֶחָ֥ד מֵ֜הֶ֗ם לֹ֣א נוֹתָֽר: |
12And they believed His words; they sang His praise. |
|
יבוַיַּֽאֲמִ֥ינוּ בִדְבָרָ֑יו יָ֜שִׁ֗ירוּ תְּהִלָּתֽוֹ: |
13Quickly, they forgot His deeds; they did not await His counsel. |
|
יגמִֽהֲרוּ שָׁכְח֣וּ מַֽעֲשָׂ֑יו לֹֽא־חִ֜כּ֗וּ לַֽעֲצָתֽוֹ: |
they did not await His counsel. They did not hope for Him. |
|
לא חכו לעצתו.
לא קוו לו:
|
14They craved a lust in the desert, and they tried God in the wasteland. |
|
ידוַיִּתְאַוּ֣וּ תַֽ֖אֲוָה בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַיְנַסּוּ־אֵ֜֗ל בִּֽישִׁימֽוֹן: |
They craved a lust. (Num. 11:4) “Who will give us meat to eat?” |
|
ויתאוו תאוה.
מי יאכילנו בשר (שם י"א):
|
15He gave them their request, but He sent emaciation into their soul. |
|
טווַיִּתֵּ֣ן לָ֖הֶם שֶֽׁאֱלָתָ֑ם וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח רָז֣וֹן בְּנַפְשָֽׁם: |
but He sent emaciation into their soul. (Num. 11:33) “and the Lord’s wrath was kindled against the people.” |
|
וישלח רזון בנפשם.
ואף ה' חרה בעם (שם י"א):
|
16They angered Moses in the camp, Aaron, the holy man of the Lord. |
|
טזוַיְקַנְא֣וּ לְ֖מֹשֶׁה בַּֽמַּֽחֲנֶ֑ה לְ֜אַֽהֲרֹ֗ן קְד֣וֹשׁ יְהֹוָֽה: |
They angered Moses. Heb. ויקנאו. In the desert they angered him, like (Deut. 32:21): “They angered Me (קנאוני) with a no-god.” I found this. |
|
ויקנאו למשה.
במדבר הכעיסוהו כמו קנאוני בלא אל (מצאתי):
|
17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan and covered the congregation of Abiram. |
|
יזתִּפְתַּח־אֶ֖רֶץ וַתִּבְלַ֣ע דָּתָ֑ן וַ֜תְּכַ֗ס עַל־עֲדַ֥ת אֲבִירָֽם: |
The earth opened up, etc.. It appears that [the Psalmist] bestowed honor upon the sons of Korah [by refraining] from mentioning their father. He attributed the sin to Dathan and Abiram. |
|
תפתח ארץ וגו'.
נראה שחלק כבוד לבני קרח מלהזכיר אביהם תלה הקלקלה בדתן ואבירם:
|
18And fire burned in their congregation; a flame burned the wicked. |
|
יחוַתִּבְעַר־אֵ֥שׁ בַּֽעֲדָתָ֑ם לֶֽ֜הָבָ֗ה תְּלַהֵ֥ט רְשָׁעִֽים: |
And fire burned. (Num. 16: 35) “and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who burnt the incense. ” |
|
ותבער אש.
ותאכל את מקריבי הקטרת (במדבר טז):
|
19They made a calf in Horeb and prostrated themselves to a molten image. |
|
יטיַֽעֲשׂוּ־עֵ֥גֶל בְּחֹרֵ֑ב וַ֜יִּֽשְׁתַּֽחֲו֗וּ לְמַסֵּכָֽה: |
20They exchanged their glory for the likeness of an ox eating grass. |
|
כוַיָּמִ֥ירוּ אֶת־כְּבוֹדָ֑ם בְּתַבְנִ֥ית שׁ֜֗וֹר אֹכֵ֥ל עֵֽשֶׂב: |
eating grass. There is nothing as disgusting and repugnant as an ox. When it eats grass, it emits much dung, with which it sullies itself. Other books read: its saliva. |
|
אוכל עשב.
אין לך מתועב ומשוקץ מן השור בשעה שהוא אוכל עשב שהוא מוציא פרש רבה והוא מלוכלך בה, ס"א רירו:
|
21They forgot God, their Savior, Who wrought great deeds in Egypt. |
|
כאשָֽׁכְחוּ אֵ֣ל מֽוֹשִׁיעָ֑ם עֹשֶׂ֖ה גְדֹל֣וֹת בְּמִצְרָֽיִם: |
22Wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds by the Sea of Reeds. |
|
כבנִפְלָאוֹת בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חָ֑ם נֽ֜וֹרָא֗וֹת עַל־יַם־סֽוּף: |
23He intended to destroy them [and would have] were it not that Moses, His chosen one, stood before Him in the breach to return His wrath from destroying. |
|
כגוַיֹּ֗אמֶר לְֽהַשְׁמִ֫ידָ֥ם לוּלֵ֡י מֹ֘שֶׁ֚ה בְחִיר֗וֹ עָמַ֣ד בַּפֶּ֣רֶץ לְפָנָ֑יו לְהָשִׁ֥יב חֲ֜מָת֗וֹ מֵֽהַשְׁחִֽית: |
24They rejected the desirable land; they did not believe His word. |
|
כדוַיִּֽמְאֲסוּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חֶמְדָּ֑ה לֹֽא־הֶֽ֜אֱמִ֗ינוּ לִדְבָרֽוֹ: |
They rejected the desirable land. when the spies were sent out, and they brought calumny on the land (Num. 13:32). |
|
וימאסו בארץ חמדה.
בשלוח מרגלים והוציאו דבה על הארץ (שם יג):
|
25They complained in their tents; they did not hearken to the voice of the Lord. |
|
כהוַיֵּרָֽגְנ֥וּ בְאָֽהֳלֵיהֶ֑ם לֹ֥א שָֽׁ֜מְע֗וּ בְּק֣וֹל יְהֹוָֽה: |
26He raised His hand to them to cast them down in the desert, |
|
כווַיִּשָּׂ֣א יָד֣וֹ לָהֶ֑ם לְהַפִּ֥יל א֜וֹתָ֗ם בַּמִּדְבָּֽר: |
He raised His hand. with an oath. |
|
וישא ידו.
בשבועה:
|
27And to cast their seed among the nations and to scatter them in the lands. |
|
כזוּלְהַפִּ֣יל זַ֖רְעָם בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם וּ֜לְזָרֽוֹתָ֗ם בָּֽאֲרָצֽוֹת: |
And to cast their seed among the nations. From that time, the destruction of the Temple was decreed upon them, for on the night of the ninth of Ab they went, and the Holy One, blessed be He, said, “They wept for nothing, and I shall establish for them weeping for generations.” |
|
ולהפיל זרעם בגוים.
מאותו שעה נגזר עליהם חורבן הבית שהרי ליל ט' באב בכו ואמר הקב"ה הם בכו בכיה של חנם ואני אקבע להם בכיה לדורות:
|
28They became attached to Baal Pe'or and ate sacrifices of the dead. |
|
כחוַיִּצָּ֣מְדוּ לְבַ֣עַל פְּע֑וֹר וַ֜יֹּֽאכְל֗וּ זִבְחֵ֥י מֵתִֽים: |
29They provoked [God] with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them. |
|
כטוַיַּכְעִֽיסוּ בְּמַֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֑ם וַתִּפְרָץ־בָּֽ֜֗ם מַגֵּפָֽה: |
30Phinehas stood up and executed justice, and the plague was stopped. |
|
לוַיַּֽעֲמֹ֣ד פִּֽ֖ינְחָס וַיְפַלֵּ֑ל וַ֜תֵּֽעָצַ֗ר הַמַּגֵּפָֽה: |
31It was accounted for him as a merit, for generation to generation to eternity. |
|
לאוַתֵּחָ֣שֶׁב ל֖וֹ לִצְדָקָ֑ה לְדֹ֥ר וָ֜דֹ֗ר עַד־עוֹלָֽם: |
32They provoked [God] by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them. |
|
לבוַיַּקְצִיפוּ עַל־מֵ֣י מְרִיבָ֑ה וַיֵּ֥רַע לְ֜מֹשֶׁ֗ה בַּֽעֲבוּרָֽם: |
33For they rebelled against His spirit, and He uttered with His lips. |
|
לגכִּֽי־הִמְר֥וּ אֶת־רוּח֑וֹ וַ֜יְבַטֵּ֗א בִּשְׂפָתָֽיו: |
For they rebelled. Moses and Aaron. |
|
כי המרו.
משה ואהרן:
|
against His spirit. with (Num. 20:10) “Hear now, you rebels!” |
|
את רוחו.
בשמעו נא המורים:
|
and He uttered with His lips. an oath (Num. 20:12): “Therefore you shall not bring this community, etc.” |
|
ויבטא בשפתיו.
שבועה לכן לא תביאו את הקהל הזה וגו' (שם כ):
|
34They did not destroy the peoples whom the Lord had told them [to destroy]. |
|
לדלֹא־הִ֖שְׁמִידוּ אֶת־הָֽעַמִּ֑ים אֲשֶׁ֚ר אָמַ֖ר יְהֹוָ֣ה לָהֶֽם: |
They did not destroy. in the days of Joshua. |
|
לא השמידו.
בימי יהושע:
|
the peoples whom the Lord had told them. (Deut. 20:16): “You shall not allow a soul to remain alive;” (Exod. 23:33), “They shall not remain as residents in your land,” but they allowed them to dwell in their midst, paying tribute. |
|
את העמים.
אשר אמר ה' להם (דברים כ׳:ט״ז) לא תחיה כל נשמה לא ישבו בארצך והם הניחום לשבת בקרבם למס עובד:
|
35And they mingled with the nations and learned their deeds. |
|
להוַיִּתְעָֽרְב֥וּ בַגּוֹיִ֑ם וַֽ֜יִּלְמְד֗וּ מַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶֽם: |
36They worshipped their idols, which became a snare for them. |
|
לווַיַּֽעַבְד֥וּ אֶת־עֲצַבֵּיהֶ֑ם וַיִּהְי֖וּ לָהֶ֣ם לְמוֹקֵֽשׁ: |
37They slaughtered their sons and daughters to the demons. |
|
לזוַיִּזְבְּח֖וּ אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶ֥ם וְאֶת־בְּ֜נֽוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם לַשֵּׁדִֽים: |
38They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters whom they slaughtered to the idols of Canaan, and the land became polluted with the blood. |
|
לחוַיִּשְׁפְּכ֨וּ דָ֪ם נָקִ֡י דַּם־בְּנֵ֘יהֶ֚ם וּבְנֽוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר זִ֖בְּחוּ לַֽעֲצַבֵּ֣י כְנָ֑עַן וַתֶּֽחֱנַ֥ף הָ֜אָ֗רֶץ בַּדָּמִֽים: |
39And they became unclean through their deeds, and they went astray with their acts. |
|
לטוַיִּטְמְא֥וּ בְמַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶ֑ם וַ֜יִּזְ֗נוּ בְּמַֽעַלְלֵיהֶֽם: |
40And the Lord's wrath was kindled against His people and He detested His inheritance. |
|
מוַיִּֽחַר־אַ֣ף יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּעַמּ֑וֹ וַ֜יְתָעֵ֗ב אֶת־נַֽחֲלָתֽוֹ: |
41And He delivered them into the hands of nations, and their enemies ruled over them. |
|
מאוַיִּתְּנֵ֥ם בְּיַד־גּוֹיִ֑ם וַיִּמְשְׁל֥וּ בָ֜הֶ֗ם שֽׂנְאֵיהֶֽם: |
And He delivered them into the hands of nations. in the days of the Judges between one judge and another, e.g. Eglon, Cushan-rishathaim, Sisera, the Philistines, and Midian. (I found.) |
|
ויתנם ביד גוים.
בימי השופטים בין שופט לשופט כגון עגלון וכושן רשעתים וסיסרא ופלשתים ומדין, (מצאתי):
|
42And their foes oppressed them, and they were humbled under their hand. |
|
מבוַיִּלְחָצ֥וּם אֽוֹיְבֵיהֶ֑ם וַ֜יִּכָּֽנְע֗וּ תַּ֣חַת יָדָֽם: |
43Many times He saved them, but they were rebellious with their counsel, and they were humbled because of their iniquity. |
|
מגפְּעָמִ֥ים רַבּ֗וֹת יַצִּ֫ילֵ֥ם וְהֵמָּה יַמְר֣וּ בַֽעֲצָתָ֑ם וַ֜יָּמֹ֗כּוּ בַּֽעֲוֹנָֽם: |
Many times He saved them. Many times they provoked Him; yet He was slow to anger and saved them. |
|
פעמים רבות יצילם.
כמה פעמים מכעיסים והוא מאריך אפו ומצילם:
|
and they were humbled because of their iniquity. Heb. וימכו, and they were humbled because of their iniquity. |
|
וימכו בעונם.
נעשו שפלים בעונם:
|
44But He looked upon their distress when He heard their cries. |
|
מדוַיַּרְא בַּצַּ֣ר לָהֶ֑ם בְּ֜שָׁמְע֗וֹ אֶת־רִנָּתָֽם: |
But He looked upon their distress. On account of prayer. |
|
וירא בצר.
מתוך תפלה:
|
when He heard their cries. On account of the merit of the Patriarchs. |
|
בשמעו את רנתם.
מתוך זכות אבות:
|
45And He remembered His covenant for them, and He relented in accordance with His abundant kindness. |
|
מהוַיִּזְכֹּ֣ר לָהֶ֣ם בְּרִית֑וֹ וַ֜יִּנָּחֵ֗ם כְּרֹ֣ב חֲסָדָֽיו (כתיב חֲסָדָֽו) : |
And He remembered His covenant. On account of repentance. |
|
ויזכור להם בריתו.
מתוך תשובה:
|
and He relented in accordance with His abundant kindness. On account of the end, when He heard, “Save us, etc.” Moses, too, included them in one verse (Deut. 4:30): “In this distress that will befall you etc.” |
|
וינחם כרב חסדיו.
מתוך הקץ בשמעו הושיענו וגו' אף משה כללם בפסוק אחד בצר לך ומצאוך וגו' (דברים ד׳:ל׳):

46And He caused them to be pitied by all their captors. |
|
מווַיִּתֵּ֣ן אוֹתָ֣ם לְרַֽחֲמִ֑ים לִ֜פְנֵ֗י כָּל־שֽׁוֹבֵיהֶֽם: |
47Save us, O Lord, our God, and gather us from the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, to boast with Your praise. |
|
מזהֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֨נוּ | יְהֹ֘וָ֚ה אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ וְקַבְּצֵנוּ֘ מִן־הַגּ֫וֹיִ֥ם לְ֖הֹדוֹת לְשֵׁ֣ם קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ לְ֜הִשְׁתַּבֵּ֗חַ בִּתְהִלָּתֶֽךָ: |
save us. now also, O Lord, our God. |
|
הושיענו.
גם עתה ה' אלהינו:
|
48Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from world to world, and all the people shall say, "Amen." Hallelujah! |
|
מחבָּר֚וּךְ יְהֹוָ֨ה | אֱלֹהֵ֪י יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל מִן־הָ֚עוֹלָ֨ם | וְעַ֬ד הָֽעוֹלָ֗ם וְאָמַ֖ר כָּל־הָעָ֥ם אָמֵ֗ן הַֽלְלוּיָֽהּ: |
from world to world. From this world to the world to come. |
