| 1And it came to pass when Jeremiah finished speaking to all the people all the words of the Lord their God which the Lord their God had sent him to them, all these words, |

אוַיְהִי֩ כְּכַלּ֨וֹת יִרְמְיָ֜הוּ לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־כָּל־הָעָ֗ם אֶת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵי֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֧ר שְׁלָח֛וֹ יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֖ם אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה: |
| 2then said Azariah the son of Hoshaiah and Johanan the son of Kareah and all the wilfully wicked people, saying to Jeremiah, "You speak falsely; the Lord our God did not send you to say, 'You shall not come to Egypt to sojourn there.' |

בוַיֹּ֨אמֶר עֲזַרְיָ֚ה בֶן־הֽוֹשַׁעְיָה֙ וְיוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְכָל־הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֖ים הַזֵּדִ֑ים אֹמְרִ֣ים אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ שֶׁקֶר אַתָּ֣ה מְדַבֵּ֔ר לֹ֣א שְׁלָֽחֲךָ֞ יְהֹוָ֚ה אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹֽא־תָבֹ֥אוּ מִצְרַ֖יִם לָג֥וּר שָֽׁם: |
| 3But Baruch the son of Neriah incites you against us, in order to deliver us into the hand[s] of the Chaldeans to put us to death and to exile us to Babylon." |

גכִּ֗י בָּרוּךְ֙ בֶּן־נֵ֣רִיָּ֔ה מַסִּ֥ית אֹֽתְךָ֖ בָּ֑נוּ לְמַעַן֩ תֵּ֨ת אֹתָ֚נוּ בְיַד־הַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ לְהָמִ֣ית אֹתָ֔נוּ וּלְהַגְל֥וֹת אֹתָ֖נוּ בָּבֶֽל: |
| 4And Johanan the son of Kareah and all the officers of the armies and all the people did not hearken to the voice of the Lord to dwell in the land of Judah. |
|
דוְלֹֽא־שָׁמַע֩ יֽוֹחָנָ֨ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֜חַ וְכָל־שָׂרֵ֧י הַֽחֲיָלִ֛ים וְכָל־הָעָ֖ם בְּק֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֑ה לָשֶׁ֖בֶת בְּאֶ֥רֶץ יְהוּדָֽה: |
| 5And Johanan the son of Kareah and all the officers of the armies took all the remnant of Judah that had returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Judah, |

הוַיִּקַּ֞ח יֽוֹחָנָ֚ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֙חַ֙ וְכָל־שָׂרֵ֣י הַֽחֲיָלִ֔ים אֵ֖ת כָּל־שְׁאֵרִ֣ית יְהוּדָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֗בוּ מִכָּל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִדְּחוּ־שָׁ֔ם לָג֖וּר בְּאֶ֥רֶץ יְהוּדָֽה: |
| 6the men and the women and the children and the king's daughters and all the people whom Nebuzaradan the chief executioner had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah. |

ואֶת־הַ֠גְּבָרִים וְאֶת־הַנָּשִׁ֣ים וְאֶת־הַטַּף֘ וְאֶת־בְּנ֣וֹת הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ וְאֵ֣ת כָּל־הַנֶּ֗פֶשׁ אֲשֶׁ֚ר הִנִּ֙יחַ֙ נְבֽוּזַרְאֲדָ֣ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֔ים אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֣ם בֶּן־שָׁפָ֑ן וְאֵת֙ יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֔יא וְאֶת־בָּר֖וּךְ בֶּן־נֵֽרִיָּֽהוּ: |
| 7And they came to the land of Egypt, for they did not hearken to the voice of the Lord, and they came to Tahpanhes. |
|
זוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם כִּ֛י לֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ בְּק֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ עַד־תַּחְפַּנְחֵֽס: |
| 8And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying: |
|
חוַיְהִ֚י דְבַר־יְהֹוָה֙ אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ בְּתַחְפַּנְחֵ֖ס לֵאמֹֽר: |
| 9Take in your hand large stones and hide them in the mortar in the framework, which is at the entrance of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of Jewish men. |
|
טקַ֣ח בְּיָדְךָ֞ אֲבָנִ֣ים גְּדֹל֗וֹת וּטְמַנְתָּ֚ם בַּמֶּ֙לֶט֙ בַּמַּלְבֵּ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֛ר בְּפֶ֥תַח בֵּֽית־פַּרְעֹ֖ה בְּתַחְפַּנְחֵ֑ס לְעֵינֵ֖י אֲנָשִׁ֥ים יְהוּדִֽים: |
| and hide them in the mortar: Heb. במלט. This ‘mem’ is a defective radical in the word, like מקום, a place, מעמד, a stand, מעשה, a deed, and its root is לט, cf. “he wrapped (וילט) his face” (I Kings 19:13). Envelop them in the mortar in the framework. |

| 10And you shall say to them: So said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; Behold I am sending, and I will take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and I will put his throne over these stones which I have hidden, and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. |

יוְאָֽמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֡ם כֹּֽה־אָמַר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הִֽנְנִ֚י שֹׁלֵ֙חַ֙ וְ֠לָֽקַחְתִּי אֶת־נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֚ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֙ עַבְדִּ֔י וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י כִסְא֔וֹ מִמַּ֛עַל לָֽאֲבָנִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֣ר טָמָ֑נְתִּי וְנָטָ֥ה אֶת־שַׁפְרִיר֖וֹ (כתיב שַׁפְרִור֖וֹ) עֲלֵיהֶֽם: |
| his pavilion: Heb. שפרירו, his tent, and a similar case is [found] in Job 26:13: “By His breath, He made the heavens a tent (שפרה).” |

| 11And he shall come and smite the land of Egypt, those who are for death, for death, and those who are for captivity, for captivity, and those who are for the sword, for the sword. |
|
יאוּבָ֕א (כתיב וּבָ֕אה) וְהִכָּ֖ה אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם אֲשֶׁ֧ר לַמָּ֣וֶת לַמָּ֗וֶת וַֽאֲשֶׁ֚ר לַשְּׁבִי֙ לַשֶּׁ֔בִי וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר לַחֶ֖רֶב לֶחָֽרֶב: |
| 12And I will ignite a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them and capture them, and he shall wrap up the land of Egypt as a shepherd wraps up his garment, and he shall leave there in peace. |
|
יבוְהִצַּ֣תִּי אֵ֗שׁ בְּבָתֵּי֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י מִצְרַ֔יִם וּשְׂרָפָ֖ם וְשָׁבָ֑ם וְעָטָה֩ אֶת־אֶ֨רֶץ מִצְרַ֜יִם כַּֽאֲשֶׁר־יַֽעְטֶ֚ה הָֽרֹעֶה֙ אֶת־בִּגְד֔וֹ וְיָצָ֥א מִשָּׁ֖ם בְּשָׁלֽוֹם: |
| and he shall wrap up the land of Egypt: He shall wrap up all its plunder and leave, as a shepherd wraps up and rolls his garment and casts it over his shoulder when he leads his flock before him. |
|
ועטה את ארץ מצרים:
יכרוך כל שללה ויצא כאשר יכרוך ויגלול הרועה את בגדו וישליכו מעל כתיפיו כשהוא מוליך צאנו לפניו:

| 13And he shall break the monuments of Beth-Shemesh which is in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire. |
|
יגוְשִׁבַּ֗ר אֶת־מַצְּבוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית שֶׁ֔מֶשׁ אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת־בָּתֵּ֥י אֱלֹהֵֽי־מִצְרַ֖יִם יִשְׂרֹ֥ף בָּאֵֽשׁ: |
| the monuments of Beth-Shemesh: The altars that those who proselytized in the days of Hezekiah had made there Sennacherib’s captives whom he brought from Cush and from Egypt before Jerusalem on the day of his downfall, as it is stated “On that day there shall be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan and swearing to the Lord of Hosts one of which will be called ‘the city of Heres’” (Isa. 19.18). Jonathan renders: The city of Beth-Shemesh, which is destined to be destroyed, will be said to be one of them. |

מזבחות שעשו שם אותם שנתגיירו בימי חזקיהו שבויי סנחריב שהוליך מכוש וממצרים לפני ירושלים ביום מפלתו כמו שאמר (ישעיהו י״ט:י״ח) ביום ההוא יהיו חמש ערים בארץ מצרים מדברות שפת כנען ונשבעות לה' צבאות עיר ההרס יאמר לאחת, ותרגם יונתן עיר קריתא בית שמש דעתידא למיחרב יתאמר דהיא חדא מנהון:
