| 1And David was a little past the top (of the mount), and behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth (came) toward him, with a pair of saddled asses, and upon them (were) two hundred (loaves) of bread, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and a hundred summer fruit, and a flask of wine. |

אוְדָוִ֗ד עָבַ֚ר מְעַט֙ מֵֽהָרֹ֔אשׁ וְהִנֵּ֥ה צִיבָ֛א נַ֥עַר מְפִיב֖שֶׁת לִקְרָאת֑וֹ וְצֶ֨מֶד חֲמֹרִ֜ים חֲבֻשִׁ֗ים וַעֲלֵיהֶם֩ מָאתַ֨יִם לֶ֜חֶם וּמֵאָ֧ה צִמּוּקִ֛ים וּמֵ֥אָה קַ֖יִץ וְנֵ֥בֶל יָֽיִן: |
| a hundred summer fruit Heb. מאה קיץ, a hundred litras of pressed figs. |

| 2And the king said to Ziba, "What for are these to you?" And Ziba said, 'the asses are for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and the summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine for the faint to drink in the wilderness'. |
|
בוַיֹּ֧אמֶר הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־צִיבָ֖א מָה־אֵ֣לֶּה לָּ֑ךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר צִ֠יבָא הַחֲמוֹרִ֨ים לְבֵית־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לִרְכֹּ֗ב וְהַלֶּ֚חֶם (כתיב וְלהַלֶּ֚חֶם) וְהַקַּ֙יִץ֙ לֶאֱכ֣וֹל הַנְּעָרִ֔ים וְהַיַּ֕יִן לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת הַיָּעֵ֖ף בַּמִּדְבָּֽר: |
| 3And the king said, "And where is your master's son?" And Ziba said to the king, "Behold he lives in Jerusalem, for he said, "Today the house of Israel will restore my father's kingdom to me." |

גוַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְאַיֵּ֖ה בֶּן־אֲדֹנֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר צִיבָ֜א אֶל־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הִנֵּה֙ יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בִּירוּשָׁלַ֔םִ כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר הַיּ֗וֹם יָשִׁ֚יבוּ לִי֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת מַמְלְכ֥וּת אָבִֽי: |
| 4And the king said to Ziba, "Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours." And Ziba said, "I prostrate myself; let me find favor in your eyes, my lord O' king." |

דוַיֹּ֚אמֶר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ לְצִבָ֔א הִנֵּ֣ה לְךָ֔ כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִמְפִיב֑שֶׁת וַיֹּ֚אמֶר צִיבָא֙ הִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֵ֔יתִי אֶמְצָא־חֵ֥ן בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ: |
| 5And king David came to Bahurim and, behold, there came out of there a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera, coming forth and cursing. |

הוּבָ֛א הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ דָּוִ֖ד עַד־בַּֽחוּרִ֑ים וְהִנֵּ֣ה מִשָּׁם֩ אִ֨ישׁ יוֹצֵ֜א מִמִּשְׁפַּ֣חַת בֵּית־שָׁא֗וּל וּשְׁמוֹ֙ שִׁמְעִ֣י בֶן־גֵּרָ֔א יֹצֵ֥א יָצ֖וֹא וּמְקַלֵּֽל: |
| 6And he threw stones at David, and at all king David's servants and at all the people and at all the mighty men who were on his right and on his left hand. |
|
ווַיְסַקֵּ֚ל בָּֽאֲבָנִים֙ אֶת־דָּוִ֔ד וְאֶת־כָּל־עַבְדֵ֖י הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֑ד וְכָל־הָעָם֙ וְכָל־הַגִּבֹּרִ֔ים מִימִינ֖וֹ וּמִשְּׂמֹאלֽוֹ: |
| 7And so said Shimei in his curse, "Begone, begone, you man of blood, and you wicked man. |
|
זוְכֹֽה־אָמַ֥ר שִׁמְעִ֖י בְּקַֽלְל֑וֹ צֵ֥א צֵ֛א אִ֥ישׁ הַדָּמִ֖ים וְאִ֥ישׁ הַבְּלִיָּֽעַל: |
| 8The Lord has returned upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead you have reigned; and the Lord has given the kingdom into the hands of Absalom your son; and behold you are in your own evil for you are a man of blood." |
|
חהֵשִׁיב֩ עָלֶ֨יךָ יְהֹוָ֜ה כָּ֣ל | דְּמֵ֣י בֵית־שָׁא֗וּל אֲשֶׁ֚ר מָלַ֙כְתָּ֙ תַּחְתָּ֔יו (כתיב תַּחְתָּ֔ו) וַיִּתֵּ֚ן יְהֹוָה֙ אֶת־הַמְּלוּכָ֔ה בְּיַ֖ד אַבְשָׁל֣וֹם בְּנֶ֑ךָ וְהִנְּךָ֙ בְּרָ֣עָתֶ֔ךָ כִּ֛י אִ֥ישׁ דָּמִ֖ים אָֽתָּה: |
| 9And Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over, I beg you, and remove his head." |

טוַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֲבִישַׁ֚י בֶּן־צְרוּיָה֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֣מָּה יְקַלֵּ֞ל הַכֶּ֚לֶב הַמֵּת֙ הַזֶּ֔ה אֶת־אֲדֹנִ֖י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ אֶעְבְּרָה־נָּ֖א וְאָסִ֥ירָה אֶת־רֹאשֽׁוֹ: |
| 10And the king said, "What is it between me and you, sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the Lord has [surely] said to him, 'Curse David'; who then shall [have the right to] say, 'Why have you done so'?" |
|
יוַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ מַה־לִּ֥י וְלָכֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י צְרֻיָ֑ה כֹּ֣ה (כתיב כֹּ֣י) יְקַלֵּ֗ל כִּ֚י (כתיב וכֹּ֚י) יְהֹוָה֙ אָ֚מַר לוֹ֙ קַלֵּ֣ל אֶת־דָּוִ֔ד וּמִ֣י יֹאמַ֔ר מַדּ֖וּעַ עָשִֹ֥יתָה כֵּֽן: |
| So let him curse |

| because the Lord said to him Is it possible that a man like him who is the head of the Sanhedrin would curse the king had he not been commanded by the Holy One Blessed be He? |

אפשר אדם כמותו שהוא ראש לסנהדרין, יקלל את המלך אם לא שנאמר לו מאת הקב"ה:

| 11And David said to Abishai and to all his servants, "Behold my son who came from my body seeks my life; how much more now [that] the Benjamite [should do it]? Let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord has bidden him. |
|
יאוַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֚ד אֶל־אֲבִישַׁי֙ וְאֶל־כָּל־עֲבָדָ֔יו הִנֵּ֥ה בְנִ֛י אֲשֶׁר־יָצָ֥א מִמֵּעַ֖י מְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אֶת־נַפְשִׁ֑י וְאַ֨ף כִּֽי־עַתָּ֜ה בֶּן־הַיְמִינִ֗י הַנִּ֚חוּ לוֹ֙ וִֽיקַלֵּ֔ל כִּ֥י אָֽמַר־ל֖וֹ יְהֹוָֽה: |
| 12Perhaps the Lord will see (the tears of) my eye, and the Lord will return to me good instead of his curse on this day." |

יבאוּלַ֛י יִרְאֶ֥ה יְהֹוָ֖ה בְּעֵינִ֑י (כתיב בְּעֵונִ֑י) וְהֵשִׁ֨יב יְהֹוָ֥ה לִי֙ טוֹבָ֔ה תַּ֥חַת קִלְלָת֖וֹ הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה: |
| the tears of my eyes Heb. בעיני, in my eye. |

| 13And David and his men went by the road; and Shimei went along the hillside opposite him, going and cursing and he threw stones toward him, and he threw earth. |
|
יגוַיֵּ֧לֶךְ דָּוִ֛ד וַאֲנָשָׁ֖יו בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ וְשִׁמְעִ֡י הֹלֵךְ֩ בְּצֵ֨לַע הָהָ֜ר לְעֻמָּת֗וֹ הָלוֹךְ֙ וַיְקַלֵּ֔ל וַיְסַקֵּ֚ל בָּֽאֲבָנִים֙ לְעֻמָּת֔וֹ וְעִפַּ֖ר בֶּעָפָֽר: |
| 14And the king, and all the people that were with him were weary, and he refreshed himself there. |
|
ידוַיָּבֹ֥א הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ וְכָל־הָעָ֥ם אֲשֶׁר־אִתּ֖וֹ עֲיֵפִ֑ים וַיִּנָּפֵ֖שׁ שָֽׁם: |
| refreshed himself there in Bahurim. |

| 15And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem; and Ahithophel [was] with him. |
|
טווְאַבְשָׁל֗וֹם וְכָל־הָעָם֙ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בָּ֖אוּ יְרוּשָׁלָ֑םִ וַאֲחִיתֹ֖פֶל אִתּֽוֹ: |
| 16And it came to pass when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, had come to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, "[long] live the king, [long] live the king." |
|
טזוַיְהִ֗י כַּֽאֲשֶׁר־בָּ֞א חוּשַׁ֧י הָאַרְכִּ֛י רֵעֶ֥ה דָוִ֖ד אֶל־אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם וַיֹּ֚אמֶר חוּשַׁי֙ אֶל־אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם יְחִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יְחִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ: |
| 17And Absalom said to Hushai, "Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?" |
|
יזוַיֹּ֚אמֶר אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֶל־חוּשַׁ֔י זֶ֥ה חַסְדְּךָ֖ אֶת־רֵעֶ֑ךָ לָ֥מָּה לֹֽא־הָלַ֖כְתָּ אֶת־רֵעֶֽךָ: |
| 18And Hushai said to Absalom, "No, but to whom the Lord and these people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, to him will I be, and with him will I abide. |
|
יחוַיֹּ֣אמֶר חוּשַׁי֘ אֶל־אַבְשָׁלֹם֒ לֹ֕א כִּי֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּחַ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה וְהָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה וְכָל־אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל ל֥וֹ (כתיב לֹ֥א) אֶהְיֶ֖ה וְאִתּ֥וֹ אֵשֵֽׁב: |
| 19Secondly, whom should I serve? [Should I] not [serve] in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence." |
|
יטוְהַשֵּׁנִ֗ית לְמִי֙ אֲנִ֣י אֶֽעֱבֹ֔ד הֲל֖וֹא לִפְנֵ֣י בְנ֑וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֚ר עָבַ֙דְתִּי֙ לִפְנֵ֣י אָבִ֔יךָ כֵּ֖ן אֶהְיֶ֥ה לִפָנֶֽיךָ: |
| 20And Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give yourself counsel what we shall do." |
|
כוַיֹּ֥אמֶר אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם אֶל־אֲחִיתֹ֑פֶל הָב֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם עֵצָ֖ה מַֽה־נַּעֲשֶֹֽה: |
| 21And Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Come in to your father's concubines that he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred of your father; then the hands of all that are with you will be strengthened." |
|
כאוַיֹּ֚אמֶר אֲחִיתֹ֙פֶל֙ אֶל־אַבְשָׁלֹ֔ם בּ֚וֹא אֶל־פִּלַגְשֵׁ֣י אָבִ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִנִּ֖יחַ לִשְׁמ֣וֹר הַבָּ֑יִת וְשָׁמַ֚ע כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כִּֽי־נִבְאַ֣שְׁתָּ אֶת־אָבִ֔יךָ וְחָ֣זְק֔וּ יְדֵ֖י כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתָּֽךְ: |
| Then the hands of all that are with above, you will be strengthened For now they [lit., their hands] are lax to support you for they say in their hearts: “the son will have a change of heart when [he is] near his father and we [alone] will remain despised by David.” |
|
וחזקו ידי כל אשר אתך
כי עתה ידם רפה לעזור לך, שאומרים בלבם הבן יתחרט אצל אביו, ואנו נהיה שנואים למלך:

| 22And they spread for Absalom a tent upon the roof; and Absalom came to his father's concubines before the eyes of all Israel. |
|
כבוַיַּטּ֧וּ לְאַבְשָׁל֛וֹם הָאֹ֖הֶל עַל־הַגָּ֑ג וַיָּבֹ֚א אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֶל־פִּֽלַגְשֵׁ֣י אָבִ֔יו לְעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל: |
| 23And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days was as if a man inquired of the word of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both to David and to Absalom. |
|
כגוַעֲצַ֣ת אֲחִיתֹ֗פֶל אֲשֶׁ֚ר יָעַץ֙ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יִשְׁאַל־ ( אִ֖ישׁ קרי ולא כתיב ) בִּדְבַ֣ר הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כֵּ֚ן כָּל־עֲצַ֣ת אֲחִיתֹ֔פֶל גַּם־לְדָוִ֖ד גַּ֥ם לְאַבְשָׁלֹֽם: |
