| 1And the lot for the children of Joseph went out from the Jordan at Jericho, to the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goes up from Jericho on the mountain to Beth-el; |

אוַיֵּצֵ֨א הַגּוֹרָ֜ל לִבְנֵ֚י יוֹסֵף֙ מִיַּרְדֵּ֣ן יְרִיח֔וֹ לְמֵ֥י יְרִיח֖וֹ מִזְרָ֑חָה הַמִּדְבָּ֗ר עֹלֶ֧ה מִֽירִיח֛וֹ בָּהָ֖ר בֵּֽית־אֵֽל: |
| And the lot for the children of Joseph went out: At the northern boundary of the end of Joshua’s conquest, the lot fell for them, as he states below: “and the sons (sic) of Joseph shall remain in their border on the north.” [Should read: “And the house of Joseph.”] Now much of the land was between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph, which the remaining tribes took after them, [or between them], as we find concerning the tribe of Benjamin: “and the border of their lot went out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.” |

וַיֵּצֵא הַגּוֹרָל לִבְנֵי יוֹסֵף:
בְּמֶצֶר צְפוֹנִי שֶׁל גְּמַר כִּיבּוּשׁוֹ שֶׁל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ נָפַל לָהֶם הַגּוֹרָל, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב לְּמַטָּה: וּבְנֵי יוֹסֵף יַעַמְדוּ עַל גְּבוּלָם מִצָּפוֹן, וְהַרְבֵּה מִן הָאָרֶץ הָיָה בֵּין בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה וּבֵין בְּנֵי יוֹסֵף, שֶׁנָּטְלוּ שְׁאָר הַשְּׁבָטִים אַחֲרֵיהֶם (רָצָה לוֹמַר, בֵּינֵיהֶם), כְּמוֹ שֶׁמָּצִינוּ בְּשֵׁבֶט בִּנְיָמִין (לקמן יח יא): וַיֵּצֵא גְּבוּל גּוֹרָלָם בֵּין בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה וּבֵין בְּנֵי יוֹסֵף.

| from the Jordan at Jericho, to the water of Jericho on the east: I.e., here the border started on the east. |
|
מִיַּרְדֵּן יְרִיחוֹ לְמֵי יְרִיחוֹ מִזְרָחָה:
הִתְחִיל הַגְּבוּל לַמִּזְרָח.

| to the wilderness that goes up from Jericho: To the wilderness, it [the border] goes up from Jericho and comes westward to Beth-el. |
|
הַמִּדְבָּר עוֹלֶה מִירִיחוֹ:
אֶל הַמִּדְבָּר עוֹלֶה הַגְּבוּל מִירִיחוֹ וּבָא לוֹ לְצַד מַעֲרָב לְבֵית אֵל.

| 2And it went out from Beth-el to Luz, and passed along to the border of Archi to 'Ataroth; |
|
בוְיָצָ֥א מִבֵּֽית־אֵ֖ל ל֑וּזָה וְעָבַ֛ר אֶל־גְּב֥וּל הָֽאַרְכִּ֖י עֲטָרֽוֹת: |
| 3And it went down westward to the border of Japhleti, to the border of lower Beth-horon, and to Gezer; and its goings out were at the sea. |
|
גוְיָרַ֨ד יָ֜מָּה אֶל־גְּב֣וּל הַיַּפְלֵטִ֗י עַד־גְּב֧וּל בֵּֽית־חֹר֛וֹן תַּחְתּ֖וֹן וְעַד־גָּ֑זֶר וְהָי֥וּ תֹצְאֹתָ֖ו יָֽמָּה: |
| 4And the children of Joseph: Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance. |
|
דוַיִּנְחֲל֥וּ בְנֵֽי־יוֹסֵ֖ף מְנַשֶּׁ֥ה וְאֶפְרָֽיִם: |
| 5And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was: the border of their inheritance on the east side was 'Atroth-addar, to upper Beth-horon; |
|
הוַיְהִ֛י גְּב֥וּל בְּנֵֽי־אֶפְרַ֖יִם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֑ם וַיְהִ֞י גְּב֚וּל נַֽחֲלָתָם֙ מִזְרָ֔חָה עַטְר֣וֹת אַדָּ֔ר עַד־בֵּ֥ית חוֹרֹ֖ן עֶלְיֽוֹן: |
| on the east side was 'Atroth- addar: “To the east it starts from 'Atroth-addar,” and from there was the width of his boundary to Beth horon; this is its width. |
|
מִזְרָחָה עַטְרוֹת אַדָּר:
לְמִזְרָח מַתְחִיל מֵעַטְרוֹת אַדָּר, וּמִשָּׁם רוֹחַב תְּחוּמוֹ עַד בֵּית חוֹרוֹן הֲרֵי רָחְבּוֹ.

| 6And the border went out toward the west to Michmetath on the northside; and the border turned about eastward to Taanath-shiloh, and passed over it on the east of Janoah; |
|
ווְיָצָ֨א הַגְּב֜וּל הַיָּ֗מָּה הַֽמִּכְמְתָת֙ מִצָּפ֔וֹן וְנָסַ֧ב הַגְּב֛וּל מִזְרָ֖חָה תַּֽאֲנַ֣ת שִׁלֹ֑ה וְעָבַ֣ר אוֹת֔וֹ מִמִּזְרַ֖ח יָנֽוֹחָה: |
| And the border went out toward the west: Its length was to the west side, to Michmetath; the line went on the north of Michmetath. |
|
וְיָצָא הַגְּבוּל הַיָּמָּה:
אָרְכּוֹ הָיְתָה לְצַד הַמַּעֲרָב אֶל הַמִּכְמְתָת, מִצָּפוֹן שֶׁל הַמִּכְמְתָת הוֹלֵךְ הַחוּט.

| and the border turned about: The width of the boundary spread out toward the north, and the line went out with its bulge to the east of Taanath-shiloh. |
|
וְנָסַב הַגְּבוּל:
מִתְפַּשֵּׁט רוֹחַב הַתְּחוּם לְצַד צָפוֹן, וְהַחוּט יוֹצֵא בִּבְלִיטָתוֹ בְּמִזְרָחָהּ שֶׁל תַּאֲנַת שִׁילֹה.

| and passed over it: And the border passed Taanath-shiloh, and the line passed on the east of Janoah. All this is the bulge of the width until “And went out at the Jordan.” And there is a city named Tappuah, and from there the line turned about to the measure of the length of the border westward to the stream of Kanah. |
|
וְעָבַר אוֹתוֹ:
וְעָבַר הַגְּבוּל אֶת תַּאֲנַת שִׁילֹה, וְעָבַר הַחוּט מִמִּזְרָח שֶׁל יָנוֹחַ כָּל זֶה בְּלִיטַת הָרוֹחַב, עַד 'וְיָצָא הַיַּרְדֵּן', וְשָׁם עִיר וּשְׁמָהּ תַּפּוּחַ, וּמִשָּׁם יִסּוֹב הַחוּט לְמִדַּת אוֹרֶךְ הַגְּבוּל יָמָּה לְנַחַל קָנָה.

| 7And it went down from Janoah to 'Ataroth, and to Naarath, and reached Jericho, and went out at the Jordan. |
|
זוְיָרַ֥ד מִיָּנ֖וֹחָה עֲטָר֣וֹת וְנַֽעֲרָ֑תָה וּפָגַע֙ בִּֽירִיח֔וֹ וְיָצָ֖א הַיַּרְדֵּֽן: |
| 8The border went westward from Tappuah to the stream of Kanah; and its goings out were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families. |
|
חמִתַּפּ֜וּחַ יֵלֵ֨ךְ הַגְּב֥וּל יָ֙מָּה֙ נַ֣חַל קָנָ֔ה וְהָי֥וּ תֹֽצְאֹתָ֖יו הַיָּ֑מָּה זֹ֗את נַֽחֲלַ֛ת מַטֵּ֥ה בְנֵֽי־אֶפְרַ֖יִם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָֽם: |
| 9And the separated cities for the children of Ephraim among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. |
|
טוְהֶֽעָרִ֗ים הַמִּבְדָּלוֹת֙ לִבְנֵ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם בְּת֖וֹךְ נַחֲלַ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה כָּל־הֶֽעָרִ֖ים וְחַצְרֵיהֶֽן: |
| And the separated cities: And this too is still of the inheritance of Ephraim: They had cities separated from their boundary, and enveloped by the inheritance of the children of Manasseh. |
|
וְהֶעָרִים הַמִּבְדָּלוֹת:
וְגַם זֶה עוֹד מִנַּחֲלַת אֶפְרַיִם, עָרִים הָיוּ לָהֶם מוּבְדָּלוֹת מִתְּחוּמוֹ וּמֻבְלָעוֹת בְּתוֹךְ נַחֲלַת בְּנֵי מְנַשֶּׁה.

| 10And they did not drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt among the Ephraimites to this day, and they became servants under tribute. |
|
יוְלֹ֣א הוֹרִ֔ישׁוּ אֶת־הַֽכְּנַֽעֲנִ֖י הַיּוֹשֵׁ֣ב בְּגָ֑זֶר וַיֵּ֨שֶׁב הַֽכְּנַֽעֲנִ֜י בְּקֶ֚רֶב אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וַיְהִ֖י לְמַס־עֹבֵֽד: |
