The Torah was given to the Yidden before but only spiritually not physically and it was more theoretical. The physical doing became important only after the Giving of the Torah on Har Sinai. (Although the Gemara in Megilah explains that the Yidden only fully accepted the Torah after the miracle of Purim) Reply
