Whether by Bonfire or Boat, Lag B’Omer Greeted With Unity
May 26, 2008
Communities worldwide marked the early summer holiday of Lag B’Omer with a variety of activities designed to strengthen Jewish unity. The Jewish Center of Northern Liberties, for instance, opted for a large bonfire smack dab in the middle of its Philadelphia neighborhood, as did many towns throughout Israel. West Coast college students, on the other hand, plied the waters of the Pacific during a Thursday night cruise. Community picnics, parades and carnivals were the order of the day Friday, while a grand rally organized by the Chabad-Lubavitch Youth Organization in Israel, and attended by thousands of children, kicked off daytime events in Jerusalem.
