Food Blessings (Brachot)
Hamotzi: Blessing Over Bread Bread made from the five species of grains identified by our sages (wheat, barley, rye, spelt or oat) require the blessing "Hamotzi". Wash hands ritually before eating bread and recite the blessing.

Mezonot: The Blessing on Grains Food that is made from grain (wheat, barley, rye, spelt or oat) but is not bread gets the blessing "mezonot".

Borei Pri Hagafen: The Blessing on Wine and Grape Juice The blessing "Borei Pri Hagafen" is recited over wine or grape juice, acknowledging the sanctity of this special beverage.

Borei Pri Ha'etz: The Blessing on Fruits The blessing "Borei Pri Ha'etz" is recited over fruits growing from a perennial tree that does not renew its stem and does not grow too close to the ground.

Borei Pri Ha'adamah: The Blessing on Vegetables The blessing "Borei Pri Ha'adamah" is recited over produce grown from the ground, including vegetables, legumes, melons, bananas, and certain berries.

Shehakol: The Blessing on All Other Foods The blessing "Shehakol" is recited over foods not grown from the ground, including meat, fish, eggs, water, drinks (except wine), and miscellaneous like candy and mushrooms.
