"...One of the principal elements in the study of Rambam is the unification of Jewry," said Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, leader of the Lubavitch Hasidim, who proposed in 1984 that Jews all over the world study a portion of Malmonides's works every day.
"Members of the Lubavitch community responded enthusiastically to the call by Rabbi Schneerson, whom they refer to with reverence as their rebbe. At his suggestion, they studied daily three chapters of Maimonides's Code of Jewish Law, known as the Mishneh Torah, and so were able to complete the 14 books in a year.
"The Lubavitchers were joined in their studies by members of other Jewish groups, among them the Gers, the Blushovers, the Beizes and the Bobovs, and they all gathered yesterday for the second celebration of the culmination of their studies and the beginning of another year of learning — a practice they intend to continue annually..."
