| 1Of David. Judge me, O Lord, for I have walked with sincerity, and I trusted in the Lord; I shall not falter. |

אלְדָוִ֨ד | שָׁפְטֵ֬נִי יְהֹוָ֗ה כִּֽי־אֲ֖נִי בְּתֻמִּ֣י הָלַ֑כְתִּי וּבַֽיהֹוָ֥ה בָּ֜טַ֗חְתִּי לֹ֣א אֶמְעָֽד: |
| Judge me: And elsewhere (143:2) he says, “You shall not enter judgment [with Your servant].” Said David: When You judge the wicked, judge me, for compared to the wicked, I am a righteous man, but when You judge the righteous, do not bring me into judgment. |

שפטני ה':
ובמקום אחר הוא אומר אל תבא במשפט וגו' (לקמן קמ"ג) אמר דוד כשאתה דן את הרשעים שפטני כי לפי הרשעים אני צדיק וכשאתה דן את הצדיקים אל תביאני במשפט:

| 2Test me, O Lord, and try me; refine my reins and my heart. |
|
בבְּחָנֵ֣נִי יְהֹוָ֣ה וְנַסֵּ֑נִי צָרְפָ֖ה (כתיב צָרְופָ֖ה) כִלְיוֹתַ֣י וְלִבִּֽי: |
| 3For Your kindness is before my eyes, and I walked in Your truth. |
|
גכִּ֣י חַ֖סְדְּךָ לְנֶ֣גֶד עֵינָ֑י וְ֜הִתְהַלַּ֗כְתִּי בַּֽאֲמִתֶּֽךָ: |
| 4I did not sit with dishonest men, neither did I go with hypocrites. |
|
דלֹֽא־יָ֖שַׁבְתִּי עִם־מְתֵי־שָׁ֑וְא וְעִם־נַֽ֜עֲלָמִ֗ים לֹ֣א אָבֽוֹא: |
| and… with hypocrites: who go into hidden places to do their deeds in the dark. |
|
ועם נעלמים:
הנכנסין בסתר לעשות במחשך מעשיהם:
|
| neither did I go: I am not accustomed to come and enter their assembly. |
|
לא אבוא:
איני רגיל לבוא וליכנס במקהלם:
|
| 5I hated the congregation of the evildoers, and I did not sit with the wicked. |
|
השָׂנֵֽאתִי קְהַ֣ל מְרֵעִ֑ים וְעִם־רְ֜שָׁעִ֗ים לֹ֣א אֵשֵֽׁב: |
| 6I washed my hands with cleanliness, and I encompassed Your altar, O Lord. |
|
ואֶרְחַ֣ץ בְּנִקָּי֣וֹן כַּפָּ֑י וַֽאֲסֹֽבְבָ֖ה אֶת־מִזְבַּֽחֲךָ֣ יְהֹוָֽה: |
| with cleanliness: For there is no robbery [involved] in my fulfillment of the commandments. |
|
בנקיון:
שאין גזל במצות שאני מקיים לולב הגזול פסול:
|
| 7To proclaim thanksgiving with a loud voice and to recite all Your wonders. |
|
זלַשְׁמִעַ בְּק֣וֹל תּוֹדָ֑ה וּ֜לְסַפֵּ֗ר כָּל־נִפְלְאוֹתֶֽיךָ: |
| To proclaim: Heb. לַשְׁמִעַ, like לְהַשְׁמִיעַ. |

כמו להשמיע:

| all Your wonders: This refers to Hallel, which contains mention of the past, mention of Gog and Magog, mention of the Messianic era, and mention of the future. |
|
כל נפלאותיך:
זה הלל שיש בו לשעבר ויש בו לגוג ויש בו לימות המשיח ויש בו לעתיד לבא:
|
| 8O Lord, I love the dwelling of Your house and the place of the residence of Your glory. |
|
חיְהֹוָ֗ה אָ֖הַבְתִּי מְע֣וֹן בֵּיתֶ֑ךָ וּ֜מְק֗וֹם מִשְׁכַּ֥ן כְּבוֹדֶֽךָ: |
| 9Gather not my soul with sinners nor my life with men of blood, |
|
טאַל־תֶּֽאֱסֹ֣ף עִם־חַטָּאִ֣ים נַפְשִׁ֑י וְעִם־אַנְשֵׁ֖י דָמִ֣ים חַיָּֽי: |
| 10in whose hands are plots and whose right hand is full of bribery. |
|
יאֲשֶׁר־בִּֽידֵיהֶ֥ם זִמָּ֑ה וִֽ֜ימִינָ֗ם מָ֣לְאָה שֹּֽׁחַד: |
| plots: Heb. זמה. Every זמה in Scripture is an expression of a plan, some for good and some for evil. |
|
זמה:
כל זמה שבמקרא לשון מחשבה יש לטובה ויש לרעה:
|
| 11But I walk with sincerity; redeem me and be gracious to me. |
|
יאוַֽאֲנִי בְּתֻמִּ֥י אֵ֜לֵ֗ךְ פְּדֵ֣נִי וְחָנֵּֽנִי: |
| 12My foot stood on a straight path; I will bless the Lord in assemblies. |
|
יברַגְלִי עָֽמְדָ֣ה בְמִישׁ֑וֹר בְּ֜מַקְהֵלִ֗ים אֲבָרֵ֥ךְ יְהֹוָֽה: |
